TX - Leo Berman drops Gov bid
Here is a letter from Leo Berman letting his supporters know he will not run for Governor of Texas.
I can't thank you enough for your E-Mail. The support from around the state by Texans deeply concerned about Obama and the Congress, became so strong and vocal, that Governor Perry asked me to have lunch with him. I visited with him on Thursday, June 11. During that visit, I asked him to consider four points dealing with State Sovereignty, Illegal aliens and our Second Amendment Rights, and adopt them as his own. I realize that the votes I would get, would come from his total and possibly allow Kay Bailey Hutchison to become Governor. I do not want that to happen. In addition, Sen. Hutchison has raised more than $18 million, Rick Perry about $14 million, and Leo Berman, $17,000. You cannot raise funds while the legislature is in session. I told Governor Perry that if he would do the following, I would drop from the race, publicly support him, and run for reelection to my House seat.
1. Under current law, a law enforcement officer cannot ask if a person is legally in the US , until they've gone through section 287(g) training with the US Dept. of Homeland Security. After the training, they can even arrest someone here illegally and turn them over to the Immigration authorities for deportation. I asked the Governor to arrange to have the training here in Texas as soon as possible for DPS troopers, sheriff's deputies and city police officers. He said he will if it is constitutional.
2. An illegal alien can only receive free education and free healthcare, both mandated by the federal government. I told Gov. Perry that illegal aliens are receiving state welfare benefits illegally. I asked him to send an Executive Order to all his Agency heads and have them purge their rolls of illegal aliens. He said he will if it is constitutional.
3. I filed HB1863. It said if a Texas firearms manufacturer, a firearms components manufacturer, or an ammunition manufacturer, produce their product in Texas for use exclusively in Texas , they are not subject to federal regulation since they are in intrastate commerce. My bill did not pass. The exact same bill did pass in Montana . It goes into effect on October 10. Shortly thereafter, the Gov. of Montana will go into federal court and test the federal government's interference in intrastate commerce in Montana . I asked Gov. Perry to join Montana as a friend of the court in the lawsuit. He said he will if it is constitutional.
4. I Joint Authored House Concurrent Resolution 50 and authored HCR 76. Gov. Perry joined with us at our press conference and endorsed the bills. He even commented that if Texans get mad enough, they may want to secede from the union. He was criticized by the liberal media, but his numbers of support went up dramatically and he surpassed Sen. Hutchison. The resolutions reasserted our Sovereignty as a state under both the Texas and US Constitutions. They sent a message to Washington saying that any federal mandates on Texas , if not fully authorized by the US Constitution, will not be done. I asked the Governor to form a consortium of at least ten other states that filed the same type resolutions, that will go into a federal court and ask for an injunction against any federal mandate thought to be unconstitutional before it can take effect. He said he will if constitutional.
Thanks again,

Berman has more wisdom that most of those clowns in Austin.
Especially the chuckle heads that think illegal immigration is a laughing matter and some kind of joke.

I have a wait and see attitude about the Governor at this point. He will need to show me PLENTY of good reasons to support him in the next election.

MW, by all accounts I agree. Let's just wait and see if this politician wavers and where he finally draws his "line in the sand".
By the way, I'll be flying up to your neck of the woods today. Raleigh-Durham and Winston-Salem.

Some of us in this area have been looking at a candidate named Debra Medina. So far, she looks good.
