Mayor Lashes Out At KFI's John and Ken

The Mayor used his time away from City Hall, as he was attending the 4th Annual Impact Awards at The Regent Beverly Wishire Hotel, to bash KFI's John and Ken.

The Awards honored, "Top Los Angeles Spanish language DJs who encouraged the peaceful immigration march."

All the spanish-only language journalists, DJs and TV news reporters were there to cover this spanish-media only event. (Can you imagine throwing an awards lunch in this City and only including English speaking media? YIKES! At least Big Boy was there!)

So the Mayor took this media opportunity, in front of the all spanish media/viewers/readers/listeners, to weigh-in with a seemingly well rehearsed, impromptu speech about a very real and very important issue affecting the city: Not LAUSD/Education, not LAPD, not Affordable Housing...but John and Ken.

Mayor V. said, "We know what a positive impact immigrants have had on our society. Don't let the hate mongors -- and let me just take a moment with cameras rolling -- John and Ken. Two people who get on the radio, every day, who share a commitment to dividing America. Who demonize our immigrants. Who single out people like Tony Valdez* because he has the courage to talk about immigration, a duty, to stand up and speak out fairly on the issue. Let us say to them, 'Shame on you! Shame on you for dividing America.' Make no mistake, WE will stand up! WE will speak out!" [Lots of crowd applause.] (You're complaining about dividing, and you are saying, "WE will...".)

* Tony Valdez is the Fox 11 News report, who was recently reassigned AWAY from covering any immigration issues, for comments like: You took this land! YOU'RE the immigrants! YOU killed people! (In reference to the Conquest of California from Mexico in 1846. 1846!)

But those are the words the Mayor of Los Angeles, and future Governor hopeful, was praising on camera. So feel free to comment below, pro and against.

My only comments are that John and Ken ARE towing the line on the anti-ILLEGAL immigration tip. I haven't heard them criticize "documented" (legal) immigration.

Now, it has been brought to my attention by a friend (whom I admire a lot for his insights on many other issues), that many Mexican immigrants don't recognize the distinction between legal and illegal immigration, referring to the 1846 conquest of from Mexico. Does the Mayor make this distinction? Because I did only hear him refer to "immigration", not "illegal immigration." So I would be interested to know if John and Ken have spoken AGAINST "documented/legal" immigration; did the Mayor have it wrong; or does he, too, feel all immigration is o.k.?

By his praise of Tony Valdez' comments, it appears he agrees with my friend.
