Residents angry over anti-immigration T-shirt

SOUTH MIAMI-DADE, FL (CNN) - An anti-immigrant T-shirt being sold in South Florida stores has many people upset. The shirt reads: "Illegal immigrants are like sperm. Millions come in but only one little bastard actually works."

The shirts were sold at Spencer's in Southland Mall. While some were shocked by the slogan, others say it's freedom of speech.

"To say that millions are going to come here and only one - I won't say the word - only one comes to work, it's very hateful," said Fernando Rangel, who was offended by the shirt.

"We have freedom of speech, absolutely," said Terry Marquetti, who also said she was offended by the shirt. "I mean, whoever wants to purchase the shirt, that's up to them. We have freedom of speech. That's what America's all about."

The shirt was also sold in stores in California and Maine. Spencer's reportedly said they meant the shirt to be funny and topical, but because so many found it offensive, they've pulled it from the shelves.

MIAMI - The shirts may finally be off store shelves, but the outrage is far from over.

Insulted and disgusted, some shoppers coming across the shirt at the Southland mall were appalled by the apparel.

The t-shirt reads: "Illegal Immigrants are like sperm. Millions come in, but only one little bastard actually works."

The store behind the shirt is Spencers. They say the merchandise is meant to be funny and topical.

Arizona's controversial law brought illegal immigration in the national spotlight. The shirt is building off that attention, but those offended by it say it crossed the line.

"They compare human beings with something that is disgusting," said Rosa Dawson, who is offended by the shirt.

The same shirt received similar customer complaints in Maine and California. Spencers ordered the shirts removed in August, but not all got packed away.

On Sunday, the shirts were still on sale at Dolphin Mall, Dadeland Mall, Pembroke Lakes Mall and Sawgrass Mills, but by Monday, the shirts started disappearing from shelves.

Mexican-American Fernando Rangel is outraged by their message and so are people from other ethnic backgrounds.

"I feel people have been talking about me all my life because of the color of my skin..I think that's offensive, very offensive," said Finesse Pringly, who is offended by the shirt.

Rangel says "There's millions of immigrants searching for a better life..it's just a slap in the face to us like we just come here to ruin the country and it's not that."

Terry Marquetti, bothered by the shirt's message said "I think it's insulting to immigrants, there are many types of immigrants in this country."

Now Spencer's says the shirts are gone for good.

"It's very hateful and a bad thing to say about a certain ethnic group," said Rangel.

The shirts have already started disappearing. They're no longer on sale at the Southland Mall and management at Spencer's say all of them will be gone by the end of the day on Tuesday.

I didn't know "illegal immigrant" was a race. These people are the first to assert that illegal invaders come from all over the world when they are defending their actions, but then turn around and claim that a t-shirt taking a shot at illegal invaders is targeting hispanics specifically.

This is one of those teaching moments that should remind these misfits to stay in school. If they had, they would have better things to do than worry about some stupid t-shirt and have the sense to know that “illegalâ€

I have seen more offensive hats and T-shirts than that and how about all the signs you carry at your protest.Jan Brewerer as a Nazi you think that wasn't offensive.Of course not. Go home they won't talk about you there.

I think they're funny as all get out! I want one too. I don;t see anything about ethnicity in the tshirt or race, so I don't buy that tired old song and dance.

All you people who have supported trashing mostly white people, marching in the streets calling anyone who opposes Illegal immigration and amnesty racists, Nazi, KKK lovers, gringos and other words meant to be hateful to caucasions because of the color of our skin, you Mexicans waving your flag in our street while desacrating and burning and stomping on the American flag, etc, etc, threatening us, while telling us we are so hateful of other ethnicities because of the color of your skin, consider this a lesson learned.

You did not do unto others as you would have them do unto you. You started this. Perhaps you would be better served by talking to and teaching your ethnicities to "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Tell them to appreciate and it's flag, this country that they so badly wanted to come to, to appreciate that it is our laws and way of life that has produced this country they so badly wanted to come to and live in. Teach them the truth - that the US is the most tolerant country in the world toward foreigners who obey the laws and actually assimilate to the American flag, our primary language - English - instead of trashing our country and anyone who opposes ILLegal immigration and biting the hand that feeds you.

Teach them that it's stupid to think that the American people would not be upset at them for doing so much of the above. Once again...

Do unto to others as you would have them do unto you. And blame mostly yourselves for your problems. Natural born American citizens and LEGAL immigrants are fed up with your whining and demanding and crying.

If you don't like this country, get out! GO to your home countries and complain and fight for your rights that you should have there. And if you are here illegally, sorry but GO HOME! This country cannot take on the world's poor. We don't want this country to become like the countries you ran from and neither do you!
Go home and fight for your beloved countries and for a better way of life there. Unrealistic you say? Perhaps in some cases, but you'll not get anywhere by your despicable actions toward us in our own country!
