The US Customs and Border Protection agency (CBP) has said this raised enough money to build approximately 100 miles of "border wall system".

In the months that followed, the CBP said it has replaced about 14 miles of scrap metal barrier with a "bollard-style wall" in San Diego, built two miles of "primary wall" in California and 20 miles of "new border wall" in Santa Teresa, New Mexico.

And in December 2018, the CBP contracted the US Army Corps of Engineers to construct up to 14 miles of "secondary wall" and up to 15 miles of primary pedestrian replacement wall in San Diego, Yuma, and El Centro Sectors.

The bill approved by Congress stipulated that funds could go on primary and secondary "fencing", barrier planning and design, and border security technology. And money could be spent on new and replacement barriers that had been approved in a previous spending bill.

MCALLEN, Texas — Federal authorities have awarded a $145 million contract to a Texas company to build 6 miles of wall along the U.S.-Mexico border in the Rio Grande Valley. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol said Friday that SLSCO will begin construction of an 18-foot reinforced concrete levee wall in February in the agency's McAllen Station region. The company will also increase the height of existing fences.

It will be the first section of President Trump's border barriers in the Rio Grande Valley, the busiest corridor for illegal crossings.

The government recently completed construction of a 2-mile, 30-foot tall section of fencing along the border in California.

Mr. Trump has been ramping up anti-immigration rhetoric heading into Tuesday's midterm elections and has ordered troops to the border to meet a caravan of Central American migrants slowly traveling through Mexico.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo defended Mr. Trump's plan to send troops to the southern border, dismissing criticism that the move is motivated by politics ahead of the midterm elections.

"We've made clear to them they need to undertake every effort they can to stop this illegal migration from entering the United States, and the president's made very clear they will not be permitted to enter our country unlawfully," Pompeo said on "Face the Nation" Sunday.

He disputed that Mr. Trump's emphasis on hardening his immigration policies in recent weeks was aimed at rallying his base.

"I've been involved in scores of conversations about stopping illegal immigration from Mexico and never once has there been a discussion of the political impact in U.S. domestic politics," Pompeo said. "It has always been about securing the safety of the American people and securing our southern border."

Then there's another 115 mile stretch of wall for Texas that he approved in late December for which ground-breaking is supposed to occur sometime in late January, I think January 29th.

These are important wall projects at high priority, high traffic areas, multiple locations across the 4 states of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas that are what Border Patrol, CBP and DHS want and need, and have wanted and needed for a very long time. This is great progress in my mind. Every high priority, high traffic area that gets a taller, stronger, better steel fence or a concrete levee wall that's sorely needed and long over-due is a big plus for our country, because BP says that where they put up these tall strong steel walls and concrete levee walls, illegal border crossings are reduced by 90-94%.

And there will be more built this year that we don't know about yet. BP knows about them, they have a list, there's 10 more priority projects they want built within the next 2 years if possible, and I think Trump will find a way to get them the money, one way or another, to build them.

So, I'm very happy with Trump's wall projects, and I don't think people should feel disappointed or let down by this. The big tall steel fences are beautiful. I prefer them over the concrete prototypes myself. I fully understand why BP wants the steel slat type fence so they can see through them. Makes perfect sense to me. If I were them, I'd want that, too.

So, be happy, America! Everything is going very very well!! (Except for this eternally stupid shut-down, which has stopped everything .... UGH! Dumb, Dumb, Dumb!)

President Donald Trump is, at once, demanding billions of dollars from the U.S. Treasury for a border wall and insisting the wall won’t really cost America anything.

As he’s done before, Trump argued Wednesday that Mexico is footing the bill thanks to a revised trade agreement. That’s not true. If the wall is to be built, the money will need to come from Washington’s coffers and be approved by Congress. There is no mechanism in the trade agreement or anywhere else for Mexico to pay back the U.S. or for the money to be refunded to the Treasury.

Trump also vastly overstated the number of people who are thought to be in the country illegally, retroactively declared that his defense chief who resigned was pushed out and raised what appear to be thin hopes for cheaper drug prices.

IMMIGRATION

TRUMP, on the number of immigrants living in the U.S. illegally: “I used to hear 11 million all the time. It would always stay right at 11. I said, ‘Does it ever increase or go down?’ ‘No, it’s 11.’ Nobody knows. It’s probably 30, 35 million people. They would flow in, mostly from the southern border, they’d come in and nobody would talk about it, nobody would do anything about it.” — Cabinet meeting.

THE FACTS: It’s nowhere close to 30 million to 35 million, according to his own Homeland Security secretary as well as independent estimates.

The nonpartisan Pew Research Center estimates there were 10.7 million immigrants in the U.S. illegally in 2016, the most recent data available. Advocacy groups on both sides of the immigration issue have similar estimates.

At a House hearing last month, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen acknowledged the number was “somewhere” between 11 million and 22 million, significantly lower than Trump’s claim of 35 million.

According to Pew, the number of immigrants in the U.S. illegally had reached a height of 12.2 million in 2007, representing about 4 percent of the U.S. population, before declining in part because of a weakening U.S. economy.

THE FACTS: This does happen, though it’s not as common as Trump suggests by talking about it so often.

He is referring to adults who come with children they falsely claim to be theirs, so that they won’t be detained under a no-child-separation policy.

But such cases of fraud are rare. According to the Homeland Security Department, about 500 immigrants were found to be not a “legitimate family unit” and thus separated upon detention from April 19 to Sept. 30 of last year. That’s a small fraction of the 107,000 families apprehended in the last budget year, which ended Sept. 30.

DRUG PRICES

TRUMP: “I think you’re going to see a tremendous reduction in drug prices.” — Cabinet meeting.

THE FACTS: Prices continue to rise. Administration policies announced last year and currently being completed don’t seem to have shifted that trend.

Figures on U.S. prescription drug price changes compiled by health data company Elsevier show that from Dec. 20 through Jan. 2, there were 1,179 product price changes. Of those, 30 were price cuts and the remaining 1,149 were price increases, with 328 of them between 9 percent and 10 percent. All but one of the rest were by lower percentages. Elsevier spokesman Chris Capot said more companies will be announcing price increases this month.

Separately, a data firm whose software can help patients find the most cost-effective medications says its information shows price increases on many commonly used drugs for conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

“In the first two days of January, prices have increased on more than 250 different products,” said Michael Rea, CEO of Rx Savings Solutions. The average increase is about 6 percent, he added.

THE FACTS: Actually, Mattis resigned as defense secretary in protest over Trump’s decision to pull U.S. troops from Syria.

The retired Marine general announced on Dec. 20 in a resignation letter that he was stepping down after Trump’s decision to withdraw 2,000 U.S. troops from Syria. Mattis said he would stay on the job until the end of February. Three days later, Trump abruptly said he was replacing Mattis with the second-ranking defense official, Pat Shanahan, on Jan. 1.

As to the tenure under Obama, Mattis served as commander of the military’s Central Command. He departed a few months earlier than expected in 2013, in part because of disagreements over Iran.

THE WALL

THE FACTS: Mexico isn’t paying. It’s also not true that there’s been much construction beyond fencing erected during previous administrations; some renovation of the existing barrier has been achieved.

Trump is arguing, in essence, that the updated trade pact with Mexico and Canada, known as the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement, will yield economic benefits to the U.S. that, years from now, will cover the unrelated costs of the wall today. That assertion doesn’t hold water even with those who support his push for a wall. He went further at a Cabinet meeting Wednesday, contending the wall will pay for itself on a “monthly basis.”

The new trade deal won’t change that much from the previous North American Free Trade Agreement. The three countries would continue trading in an environment of mainly low or no tariffs, with certain improvements for all three partners from the terms of NAFTA. Moreover, the new deal isn’t in effect. It’s awaiting ratification from legislative bodies in each country, and that is not assured.

There is no credible way for Trump to forecast additional growth covering costs that are being charged to U.S. taxpayers if the wall is built. Trade balances depend on too many factors — consumer tastes, exchange rates, overall economic performance and the choices of thousands of companies, for example — and some are well outside any government’s control. Trump specifically promised in his 2016 campaign that Mexico would pay for the wall. It is not doing so.

Trump’s case is also built on a mischaracterization of trade balances. Unlike economists and governments, he considers a trade deficit to be a payment to the exporting country. By that argument, if a trade deficit shrinks, the U.S. is saving money. But that’s not how trade works. Consumers create a trade deficit by buying products made abroad. They get value for their purchase — the products — and are not giving money away.

Trump’s claim that much of the “Wall has already been fully renovated or built” is only supported when counting work done by past administrations and ignoring the fact that fences are not the towering walls he promised. The 2006 Secure Fence Act has resulted in about 650 miles (1,050 kilometers) of border barrier. Money approved by Congress in March 2018 is to pay for 84 miles (135 km), but that work is not done.

Trump’s point that the national security benefits would outweigh the economic cost is a legitimate one to debate. But the notion that U.S. taxpayers would not be covering the cost is baseless.

Far-right commentator Ann Coulter insulted President Donald Trump on Wednesday over his inability to get his long-promised wall built along the southern border of the United States.

In an interview with the conservative Daily Caller, Coulter—who has previously called out Trump about the wall—said she worried that the president might be missing his last shot to get his wall built, considering Democrats would soon control the House of Representatives.

"Either Trump never intended to build a wall and was scamming voters from the beginning or he hasn’t the first idea in how to get it done and no interest in finding out," Coulter told The Daily Caller. "My prediction is his support will evaporate and Trump will very likely not finish his term and definitely not be elected to a second term."

Trump Keeps Lying About Having Started His Wall, And His Supporters Don’t Care

The president says Congress has given him nearly $5 billion to start building his “Great Wall.” The actual figure is zero.

PENSACOLA, Fla. ― Donald Trump keeps claiming that construction on his promised “great wall” is well underway although not a single yard of it has been built, and his supporters are getting mad ― not at the president, but at those who point out his lie.

“I don’t care. He has done more than any Republican or Democrat,” said Pete Sandifer, a 58-year-old military retiree who with his wife drove two and a half hours from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to attend Trump’s rally in the far western Florida Panhandle.

Sharon Sandifer, 43, disputed that Trump has been unable to secure any funding for his wall along the U.S.-Mexico border from any source ― a fact easily proven in the spending legislation that Trump himself has signed.

“Excuse me,” she told HuffPost a short while before Trump arrived at Pensacola International Airport for a Saturday evening rally. “But it’s your word against his.”

Robert Robertson, in line to clear security and enter the massive hangar where Trump was to speak, was not interested in hearing about Trump’s falsehoods about the wall ― or anything else, for that matter.

“All politicians are liars. They’re all weasels,” said the 60-year-old from Panama City. “You know why he’s so good? Because he’s up there breaking all the furniture. If he wanted to shoot somebody on Broadway, I’d vote ‘not guilty.’”

Rick Wilson, a Florida GOP consultant and a Trump critic from the time he entered the presidential race, said the Trump supporters who ignore his failure to deliver on the signature promise of his campaign ― let alone get Mexico to pay for it, which he also promised ― speak volumes.

“They either think it’s mostly built, or they think the Mexican check just hasn’t cleared yet,” Wilson said. “It’s just magical thinking.”

Trump promised hundreds of times during his campaign that he would force Mexico to pay for the wall’s construction. Yet nearly two years into his presidency, he has not even once broached the topic with that country. In fact, he acknowledged to Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto just days after taking office that he understood Mexico would not pay for the wall but asked Peña Nieto not to say that publicly to avoid embarrassing Trump with his supporters.

That promise of forcing Mexico to pay, first made the day Trump came down his Manhattan condo escalator to announce his campaign in June 2015, has now been abandoned. Instead, Trump has taken to claiming in recent months that Congress gave him $1.6 billion to start wall construction. He later increased that amount to $3.2 billion, and in recent speeches he has added a third $1.6 billion tranche, bringing the supposed total to nearly $5 billion.


In fact, the actual dollar amount Congress has appropriated for wall construction is zero.

There was $1.57 billion in the 2017-2018 spending bill to build and repair 33 miles of fencing along the southwest border and pay for some additional border security measures. However, the legislation specifically prohibited the construction of any form of structure that was not already in use in 2017.

With most of Trump’s thousands of falsehoods, it is unclear whether he knows he is saying something untrue. Trump has proven to be deeply ignorant on any number of issues important to the presidency, so in many cases, a given falsehood could be a matter of him lacking information about a topic but forming a strong opinion nonetheless.

But on the matter of the wall, Trump does seem to understand that Congress has not provided any funding for its construction. In fact, he threatened to veto a massive $1.3 trillion spending package in March because it did not pay for his wall. He wound up signing it anyway, and said he did so because of all the money it contained for the military.

Trump similarly signed an $853 billion spending bill in September to avoid a government shutdown just weeks before the midterm elections. That legislation also has no money for wall construction.

Despite all of this, Trump has claimed that construction has begun on his wall in virtually every rally speech of late. He repeated the falsehood again in Pensacola Saturday night.

“So we’re building the wall. As you know. It started. We did $1.6 billion. We got another $1.6 billion, we’re doing that. And we have another third, but I want to build it all at one time,” Trump said.

And his supporters, from elderly to first-time voters, said the lie did not bother them.

“Trump has really good intentions. And a lot of the things he says, I think he will do,” said Abigail Mainor, an 18-year-old student at Northwest Florida College in nearby Niceville who said she will be casting her first ballot in Tuesday’s midterm elections. “Everyone makes mistakes.”

Trump’s Pensacola visit was his second campaign stop in Florida in four days on behalf of former Jacksonville-area Rep. Ron DeSantis, who is running for governor, and current Gov. Rick Scott, who is running for Senate.

Their respective Democratic opponents are Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, who is hoping to become the first African-American Florida governor, and Sen. Bill Nelson, who is running for a fourth six-year term.

But as Buzzfeed quickly pointed out, this wasn’t Trump’s wall. In fact, the images Trump was waving around had nothing to do with any of his promises, or threats. What Trump was claiming as his, was actually just repair of a section of existing fence in Calexico, California. The funding, scheduling, and planning for these repairs was done in 2009. The fence is meant to replace an unsightly wall composed mostly from scrap metal that was built in the 1990s.

Better still, the photos that Trump used for his “start of the wall” tweet were actually from work that was done more than a month before he even signed the omnibus funding bill.

Best of all, Esquire points out that Trump is lying to cover up the fact that he still doesn’t have dollar one for building his wall.

President Trump secured just $1.6 billion in border security funding in the last spending bill, well short of the $25 billion-plus needed to realize his signature campaign promise. It will primarily go towards a fence—which Trump specifically promised would not be a substitute for his Big, Beautiful Wall—and just $38 million is available for “border barrier planning and design.”

So Trump was lying about it being the start of his wall. He was lying about it being the wall. And he was lying about being able to start on his wall. Not only has the wall not started, Trump is out of options.

The wall is the most visible part of Trump’s set of promises, and even his supporters are unlikely to be put off long by a picket fence authorized under President Obama.

Trump is feeling the heat. Failure to build The Wall may be the one thing that causes The Base to desert him. (President Business Deals echoed this himself when he begged the President of Mexico not to say in public they won't pay.)

That heat has Trump trying to steal money from the military.

After floating the notion to several advisers last week, he told House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) that the military should pay for the wall, according to three people familiar with the meeting last Wednesday in the White House residence. Ryan offered little reaction to the notion, these people said, but senior Capitol Hill officials later said it was an unlikely prospect.

Again on Wednesday, Trump talked about how the wall “has started” how “beautiful” it is and reminded people to look at the pictures he posted on Wednesday. Pictures of a fence. Paid for, designed, planned, and scheduled before Trump appeared on the scene.

The truth is that Trump’s whole “Build that wall!” theme is just another of the quips floated, tested, and refined by Steve Bannon and Cambridge Analytica that Trump wandered on stage to say.

In a stunning week of revelations, we now know the answer. The core messages of the president’s underlying xenophobia and racism that animated his base didn’t emerge from the mind of “very stable genius” Trump (despite a long life of troubling racial attitudes). Instead, the nonstop undercurrent of hate toward The Other in American life was focus-grouped, computer-coded, deliberately amplified by a new ultra-right-wing media echo chamber and then targeted with cruise-missile precision at the handful of states that Trump won by roughly 100,000 votes to grab the Electoral Vote.

Now Trump has to face the fact that the wall he promised in every rally, debate, and commercial … has not a dime to start funding. So instead he’s just telling his supporters that the Big Beautiful Wall is underway and showing them pictures of a short length of fence that divides a road on Calexico. Because he has no respect for his supporters, and has every faith they’ll believe anything he tells them.

Trump should just use pictures of the border wall from the 2010 film, Monsters. It’s much more impressive — and it wouldn’t be any more of a lie.

But as Buzzfeed quickly pointed out, this wasn’t Trump’s wall. In fact, the images Trump was waving around had nothing to do with any of his promises, or threats. What Trump was claiming as his, was actually just repair of a section of existing fence in Calexico, California. The funding, scheduling, and planning for these repairs was done in 2009. The fence is meant to replace an unsightly wall composed mostly from scrap metal that was built in the 1990s.

Better still, the photos that Trump used for his “start of the wall” tweet were actually from work that was done more than a month before he even signed the omnibus funding bill.

Best of all, Esquire points out that Trump is lying to cover up the fact that he still doesn’t have dollar one for building his wall.

President Trump secured just $1.6 billion in border security funding in the last spending bill, well short of the $25 billion-plus needed to realize his signature campaign promise. It will primarily go towards a fence—which Trump specifically promised would not be a substitute for his Big, Beautiful Wall—and just $38 million is available for “border barrier planning and design.”

So Trump was lying about it being the start of his wall. He was lying about it being the wall. And he was lying about being able to start on his wall. Not only has the wall not started, Trump is out of options.

The wall is the most visible part of Trump’s set of promises, and even his supporters are unlikely to be put off long by a picket fence authorized under President Obama.

Trump is feeling the heat. Failure to build The Wall may be the one thing that causes The Base to desert him. (President Business Deals echoed this himself when he begged the President of Mexico not to say in public they won't pay.)

That heat has Trump trying to steal money from the military.

After floating the notion to several advisers last week, he told House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) that the military should pay for the wall, according to three people familiar with the meeting last Wednesday in the White House residence. Ryan offered little reaction to the notion, these people said, but senior Capitol Hill officials later said it was an unlikely prospect.

Again on Wednesday, Trump talked about how the wall “has started” how “beautiful” it is and reminded people to look at the pictures he posted on Wednesday. Pictures of a fence. Paid for, designed, planned, and scheduled before Trump appeared on the scene.

Has construction 'already started' on Trump’s border wall in San Diego?

Here’s what Trump said, in context, at the Nevada rally on June 23, 2018:

"We have to have strong borders. We’re going to have the (border) wall. We’re gonna have the wall. We’ve already started it ....

(Audience cheers)

"We’ve already started it. You know, we started it in San Diego."

Has construction really started on Trump’s signature campaign promise: Building "a big, beautiful wall," on the U.S.-Mexico border?

Trump has made similar statements in the past. In this fact check, we’ll focus on his claim: "We’ve already started (the border wall). We started it in San Diego."

Projects at the border

There are projects underway to replace fencing along the border in San Diego and further east in Calexico. Those call for new and taller, bollard-style barriers, which include a comb-like array of steel posts that border patrol agents can see through, some of which were planned long before Trump ran for office.

A recent appropriation by Congress of $1.6 billion allows for the replacement of the old fencing, but not for the construction of any sort of concrete wall prototype as Trump requested.

"The one thing we don’t fund is the one issue we all campaigned on — a border security wall — and that is not in the legislation," Republican Rep. Jim Jordan, founder of the House Freedom Caucus, said of the omnibus bill, according to an April article by FactCheck.org.

In San Diego, the project underway will replace 14 miles of scrap metal fencing that’s now eight-to-10 feet high with the bollard-style barrier.

That replacement will be 18-to-30 feet in height and include an anti-climbing plate, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release announcing the start of construction on June 1, 2018. The press release calls it the third "border wall construction project," which is misleading.

That’s because none of the projects that have already started will produce the solid, 30-foot high concrete barrier Trump promised during his 2016 presidential campaign. More specifically, they won’t include any of the eight border wall prototype designs ordered by the Trump administration.

"... this isn’t Trump’s wall"

The same goes for the 2.25-mile barrier replacement project east of San Diego in Calexico.

"First and foremost, this isn’t Trump’s wall," Jonathan Pacheco, a spokesman for the Border Patrol’s El Centro Sector, which includes Calexico, told the Los Angeles Times in March 2018. "This isn’t the infrastructure that Trump is trying to bring in. … This new wall replacement has absolutely nothing to do with the prototypes that were shown over in the San Diego area."

Plans for the Calexico project, which also include a bollard-style structure, began in 2009 under the Obama administration and were funded in 2017, under Trump, according to the Times.

A spokesman for the Border Patrol’s San Diego Sector said they could not specify when planning started for the San Diego project.

"These were funded under FY2017 so planning was before or during that time," Ralph DeSio, the agency’s San Diego-based spokesman, wrote in an email.

The White House did not respond to a request for evidence supporting the president’s statement.

The reality of what’s being built at these sites, and how it differs from Trump’s campaign promise, hasn’t stopped the president from distorting the facts.

In April, PolitiFact National rated Mostly False Trump’s similar statement: "We’ve started building the wall." It found Trump’s words "leave the impression that construction is underway for the border wall he promised, and that $1.6 billion is helping pay for it. That’s not the case."

It concluded that "it’s disingenuous to claim" the projects underway "amount to the border wall Trump has long promised."

Our ruling

President Trump recently claimed: "We’ve already started (the border wall). We started it in San Diego."

His statement gives the wrong impression that border fence replacement projects in California, including those in San Diego and Calexico, are the same as the solid, 30-foot-high concrete wall he promised during his run for president.

The $1.6 billion authorized by Congress for these projects does not allow for the construction of any sort of wall prototype requested by Trump.

Instead, the projects underway include arrays of steel posts, between 18 and 30 feet high, that allow border patrol agents to see through.

The planning for at least some of these projects, which will replace shorter scrap metal fencing, started long before Trump ran for office. Congress, however, agreed to pay for them under Trump’s administration.

We also grant that Trump at the Nevada rally added: "We’re fixing it. And we’re building new." This could be interpreted as a slight

acknowledgement that the projects aren’t exactly what he promised, but they don’t add much clarity to what overall is a misleading statement.

It's just killing these DemoQuacks, Never Trumpers and Trump Haters that Trump Supporters do not care!! If we get some walls, we'll be happy, if we don't get any more walls, we'll still be happy, because we are happy people, we are happy with our dear President who is fixing our country faster than we can count the ways. We love President Trump and there is nothing anyone can say or do that will ever change that.
