    Alert! HR 2076 seeks to gut border security!

    Alert! HR 2076 seeks to gut border security!

    New legislation would stymie efforts to gain control of our border. HR 2076 by Representative Raul Grijalva [D-AZ] would delay indefinitely all efforts to stop illegal immigration at our borders.

    Ostensibly, the Border Security and Responsibility Act of 2009 seeks to avoid environmental and community disruption in building infrastructure to secure our border, but the reality is that it would create an open border by prohibiting all efforts to control illegal immigration.

    raul is an open borders zealot who does not care for america,
    he cares for "his kind" of people, the hispanics.
    he does not like e verify, the border fence, ICE raids.
    he does not seem to care that tons and tons of trash are left on the
    desert floor by illegals and that wildlife eats some of that and dies

    Below is the email I just received from my excellent Congressman, Michael Burgess, in response to my email opposing H.R. 2076:

    Dear xxxx;

    Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 2076. I appreciate hearing your opinions about this important legislation.

    As you may know, H.R. 2076, the Border Security and Responsibility of 2009, was introduced by Congressman Raul Grijalva (D-Arizona) on April 23, 2009. If passed, this bill will direct the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Secretary of the Interior, The Secretary of Agriculture, the Secretary of Commerce and the Secretary of Defense to submit to Congress a border protection strategy for the international land borders of the United States. It specifies that this strategy must be formed in consultation with tribal, state, and local officials.

    This bill would also prohibit the construction of border fencing, physical barriers, roads, lighting, cameras and sensors prior to 90 days after such border strategy's submission to Congress. In addition, this bill would eliminate existing border fence requirements instead giving priority to the use of remote cameras, sensors and other low impact border enforcement techniques.

    Border security is especially concerning to me. As a representative from a border state, it is not hard to see first hand the negative impact that illegal entry into the United States can have on communities. Now more than ever we must ensure that our nation's borders are secure. With respect to physical barriers to protect our borders, in 2006, I voted in favor of the Secure Fence Act (H. R. 6061), which was signed into law on October 26, 2006. This Act directs the Department of Homeland Security to provide at least two layers of reinforced fencing, installation of additional physical barriers, roads, lighting, cameras, and sensors near strategic parts of the U.S.-Mexico Border. I am proud to have supported this important piece of legislation, which is an essential tool in protecting our country from the threats of porous borders and illegal immigration. I stress that physical barriers along our borders are merely a piece of the comprehensive solution and should be complemented by the policies I have discussed above.

    H.R. 2076 has currently been referred to the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities. While I am not a member of this subcommittee, rest assured that I will keep your opinions in mind should this bill reach the House floor for a vote.

    Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. I appreciate having the opportunity to represent you in the U.S. House of Representatives. Please feel free to visit my website (www.house.gov/burgess) or contact me with any future concerns.

    Sincerely,

    Michael C. Burgess, M.D.
