HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Recordings of 911 calls from the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting show town dispatchers calmly responding to a janitor, a teacher and others and assuring them help is coming.

The operators urge the people inside the school to take cover as they reach out to town officials and state police for help. The operators also ask about the welfare of the children.

A gunman shot his way into the school on the morning of Dec. 14 and gunned down 20 children and six educators with a semi-automatic rifle. He committed suicide as police arrived.

The calls to Newtown police were posted Wednesday on a town website. A court ordered the release of the tapes last week, despite the objections of prosecutors, after a legal challenge by The Associated Press.

The Newtown, CT police department has released a portion of the 911 calls that were made on the day of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Below is the full transcript of the released 911 calls.
Tape 1:
Newtown 911, what's the location and emergency?
Caller: Sandy Hook school, I think there's somebody shooting in here. In Sandy Hook school.
OK, what makes you think that?
Caller: Because somebody's got his gun. I saw a glimpse of somebody running down the hallway. They're still running, they're still shooting. Sandy Hook school, please.
Tape 2:
Newtown 911, what's the location of your emergency?
Caller: Sandy Hook Elementary School, 12 ___ Drive
911: OK, I've got that. What's going on down there?
Caller: I believe they're shooting at the front … at the front glass. Something is going on.
911: All right, I want you to stay on the line with me. Where are you in the school?
Caller: I'm down the corridor.
911: All right, I want you to take cover. Jens, get the sergeant. All right, get everybody you can going down there. Let me get some information from you. What makes you think that?
Caller: The front glass is all shot out, it kept going on.
911: OK.
Caller: It's still happening.
911: All right, what about the students in the front of the building?
Caller: Everything's locked up as far as I know. I'm not in the front.
911: OK, they're in lockdown?
Caller: Yeah, they're in lockdown.
911: Did you see anything out the window?
Caller: no, it's still going on. I can't get over there.
911: OK, I don't want you to go over there. I want to know what's happening with the students though, along the front corridor. This is in the front parking lot?
Caller: yes. I'm not in the front, I'm actually down the other part. But I'm close.
911: OK, do you see anything or hear anything more?
Caller: I keep hearing shooting. I keep hearing popping.
(Other emergency responders8 ) Guys, we got a shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, that's what 911's ringing off the hook for.

Caller: Doors are locked, kids are in classrooms.
911: OK. So at this time you're (defending?) in place?

911: So at this time, all the rooms are locked?

911: Did you see anything out front before this started?
Caller: No, and I was out all morning.

Caller: OK, The gym teacher just told me they saw shadows going past the gym.
911: Just now?
Caller: Yes.
911: OK. Are they running on the outside or the inside?
Caller: I would say that was the outside.
(gunshots)
Caller: There's still shooting going on. Please.
911: What about injuries at this time?
Caller: Excuse me?
911: What about injuries?
Caller: I don't know of any injuries right now.

911: Jenn, I need you to call state police.
Caller: It's still going on.

Caller: It sounds like there are gunshots in the hallway. I'm a teacher at the school.
911: OK, are you in the school right now?
Caller: I'm in the school, in the classroom.
911: OK, do you have everyone in the classroom and the door locked?
Caller: all of my students - the door's not locked yet.
911: OK, lock the door. Keep everybody calm, get everybody down, get everybody away from the windows, OK?
Caller: Yes, OK.
911: Where are you in the school?
Caller: I am in the hallway when you walk in the front entrance if you take a left.
911:OK, all right, try to lock down the school, OK?
Caller : We're trying. OK.
