    Question on Anchor babies

I have a question about Michelle Malkin. She claims to be against anchor babies, but she is one herself....

"Malkin was born Michelle Maglalang in Philadelphia to Filipino parents, Dr. Apolo and Rafaela Maglalang, in the United States on a work visa

I dont understand how can she argue about this?! I find it weird that she is so against them when she was born an anchor baby, why is her situation different?!

Her parents were in the country legally, and if she is born here, she is a United States Citizen.

I do not feel that fits the definition of Anchor Baby.

Now "Alberto Gonzalez" (U.S. Attorney General), who will not publically disclose the status of his parents and grand parents, that may be another story.

    Wikipedia

Gonzales was born in San Antonio, Texas and raised in Humble, near Houston. He was the second of eight children born to Pablos and Maria Gonzales. His father, who died in 1982, was a construction worker. Both his parents were children of immigrants from Mexico with less than a high-school education themselves; in the midst of a national debate in the US about immigration from Mexico, Gonzales told Wolf Blitzer on CNN that no immigration documentation exists for three of his grandparents and they may have entered and resided in the United States illegally ([1]).

I don't know, maybe she sees what it is doing to our country maybe? A lot of immigrants here during the Regan yrs were given amnesty by him, yet many of them are not for giving amnesty to the illegals that are here now, does this make them wrong for being against amnesty now? In all fairness to Michelle, she had no control on her own birth circumstances, should she be made to pay for them by not having a voice against anchor babies now?

Sounds like a good question - why don't you e-mail her and see what she says.

I don't see a problem with her position.

When the work visa expires, they worker should return home with the entire family.

Come on guys, since this is Chris13's first post, I'm going to assume he posted here to start trouble.

As Skip said, "Her parents were in the country legally, and if she is born here, she is a United States Citizen." The babies that are an issue are those that are born of illegal immigrant parents, but you knew that didn't you Chris?

Born in the US in 1970. Her father, along with many Filipino health care professionals was in the US on temporary visas to get furhter medical training for certification to practice medicine in the US. I wouldn't know exactly what the visa regulations were in this case in the 1970's, but many of these physicians from Philippines, India and other countries were able to adjust status and become permanent residents and eventually citizens, irregardless of whether they bore children on American soil. The argument that Michelle Malkin, nee Michelle Maglalang, was an "anchor baby" is irrelevant, if not baseless. Given that her father was a working medical professional and her mother worked as a teacher in the US, I suspect they took respnsibility for the hospital bills and child care expenses for baby Michelle rather than saddling the taxpayers with the costs.
