Anna Calixto went to court Friday seeking an order of protection from her husband, Fernando Calixto. Instead, she was told to go back to her native country of Nicaragua by Blount County Circuit Court Judge W. Dale Young, according to witnesses.

Anna Calixto and witnesses said the judge asked Fernando Calixto — who came to the United States from Mexico — if he was in the United States legally. The judge told him if he wasn’t here legally, he had “no rights in court.â€

They have a U.S. marriage license issued by the state of Virginia, where they lived at the time.
    That should not have happened.

I wouldn't mess with them either. They came here illegally and are still causing problems. You know if she wants to protect herself, she should just leave.

Good for the judge not dealing with this bull crap and these people that shouldn't be here.

I don't see anything that demands protection....looks more like a normal everyday occurrence in these situations.

Maybe this was done to lend credibility to her future claim of being a victim of violent crime. Probably preparation for the pending law that grants special status to illegals who are victims of violent crime. Expect to see more of this charade.

I agree she was setting her self up for a victims claim to become a citizen and the judge saw right thru her little plan.

yup one order of protection is all she would need to self petition and stay in America legally.

Calixto moved to the United States from Nicaragua in 1994 to go to school and work.
I find this type of semantics unethical. Since Calixto admitted he is in the U.S. illegally, the honest way to explain how he came to be here is to write, "Calixto came to the U.S. illegally from Nicaragua in 1994..."

To say he "moved" here is deliberately misleading to readers.

I don't know why the media so often gets away with this sort of thing?
Calderon was absolutely right when he said...."Where there is a Mexican, there is Mexico".
