Clinton: I’d add Michelle Obama to my Cabinet

    Hillary Clinton
says she is open to making first lady Michelle Obama a member of her Cabinet should she become president.

“She’s made it pretty clear she wants to focus on important issues like girls’ education around the world – she and I actually talked about it when we were together in Winston-Salem [N.C.] – and I want to be the best partner I can be for whenever she wants to be involved in government again,” she said in an interview with Extra released Monday.

“I think she wants to take a break from it, but if she ever wants to do anything like that, I would be the number-one person.”Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, added that she admires Obama’s work both in the White House and on the campaign trail.

“Well, I don’t know how anybody could have done what she’s done for the last eight years with more grace and more of a sense of purpose but inclusivity,” she said.

“She’s been an exemplary first lady, and I know how hard that job is,” added Clinton, who is herself a former first lady. "So I feel so close to her and I’m so appreciative of all the help she’s giving me, all the confidence and courage, because it’s hard.”

President Obama said last Friday his wife would “never run for office,” despite her high-profile role in the 2016 race.

“She is as talented and brilliant a person as there is and I could not be prouder of her, but Michelle does not have the patience or the inclination to actually be a candidate herself,” he said of Michelle Obama on the “Sway in the Morning” satellite radio show. "That’s one thing y’all can take to the bank.”

Michelle Obama has emerged as one of Clinton’s major surrogates after several powerful speeches promoting the former secretary of State.

The first lady grabbed headlines earlier this month, for example, by delivering a stinging rebuke to GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s past behavior toward women.

‘Extra' Exclusive with Hillary Clinton & Jennifer Lopez, Plus: Hillary Gushes Over First Lady Michelle Obama

    October 31, 2016

Over the weekend, only “Extra’s” Tracey Edmonds was with presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Jennifer Lopez at the Get Out the Vote event in Miami, right after J.Lo took the stage to support the Democratic nominee.

Tracey showed the former secretary of state photos of another of her huge celebrity supporters, Katy Perry, and her friend dressed as Hillary and Bill Clinton for a Halloween party. Katy's boyfriend Orlando Bloom joined the fun by dressing as Donald Trump. Hillary reacted, “Oh, my — look at that!” Jennifer asked, “Is that them?” Hillary added, “This is shocking — oh, my gosh.” Lopez smiled, saying, “That’s amazing. They are hilarious.” Clinton laughed and said, “This is great! She could be me when we finish the campaign.”

On the topic of Halloween, Lopez revealed what costumes her twins Max and Emme have chosen. “Emme is learning to sew and she's super into it... She makes something every time she goes to this class, and she made a cat costume and so that’s what she's wearing.” Lopez said Max was going as Bowser from Super Mario Bros.

Hillary said her granddaughter Charlotte was going as “a polar bear.”

Lopez put on a free concert in the battleground state of Florida, just days before the November 8 election and hours after news broke that the FBI is looking into recently discovered emails in relation to Clinton’s personal server. Clinton was happy for the support from J.Lo and full of praise for the diva's concert with Marc Anthony, saying, “I really want people to feel good and I'm sick of all the dark, deceitful, hateful stuff that we've heard too much of because we've gotta bring people together and lift each other up, and what [Jennifer] did tonight was so exciting.”

Lopez was just as excited to publicize that she’s there for Hillary, even during this tumultuous campaign. “I’ve got your back,” she said to the candidate.

Hillary’s message during these difficult last days of the campaign: Love over hate. “I started talking about love and kindness months ago in this campaign because I was just so disturbed, coming from my opponent and on the other side, the kind of negativity, the insulting, the bigotry — I thought, 'Wait a minute, that is not who we are.' We've got problems and we're gonna keep moving to solve those problems, but we're so much better than what we're hearing from the candidate on the other side — Donald Trump. And so I wanted people to begin to look at each other with more respect and understanding.”

Hillary voiced respect for another female surrogate as well, First Lady Michelle Obama, “Well, I don’t know how anybody could have done what she's done for the last eight years with more grace and more of a sense of purpose but inclusivity… She is such a hugger… We appeared a few days ago together. She’s been an exemplary first lady, and I know how hard that job is… So I feel so close to her and I’m so appreciative of all the help she's giving me, all the confidence and courage, because it’s hard.”

Hillary would also consider Michelle for a cabinet position! “She's made it pretty clear she wants to focus on important issues like girls' education around the world — she and I actually talked about it when we were together in Winston-Salem — and I want to be the best partner I can be for whenever she wants to do be involved in government again. I think she wants to take a break from it, but if she ever wants to do anything like that, I would be the number-one person.”

J.Lo also explained why she is with Hillary, saying, “Not only is she the most experienced person for this job and she knows this country — she's lived it on so many different sides already.” Lopez also shared one fun tidbit — she lives in the same building in New York as Hillary’s daughter Chelsea and her family. ”I live upstairs from her. I get to see how often she comes to see her daughter, how often she comes to visit her grandchildren… They're a good, decent, working family who knows this office and I just feel like we will be in amazing hands.”

As for her favorite Jennifer Lopez song, Clinton said, “Let’s Get Loud”!

I'm not a fan of Michelle Obama, because she never says or does anything important. What has she done? What has she said? She puts herself and her fancy vacations above the best interest of our nation. She's campaigning for Hillary on the "woman card". She's a good person I suppose, she's a good wife and mother, although she's had her own mother raising her children if seems. I suppose she's done all the things a First Lady is supposed to do, who knows? No one reports on what she actually does.

I think of First Ladies like Lady Bird Johnson who is personally responsible for cleaning up our highways and making them beautiful. Young people won't remember what our highways used to look like. Piles of trash everywhere, no landscaping, ugly. She said "that's ugly, lets fix it" and started a campaign that changed our driving landscape forever. She made an important mark, set a new standard, and now we have beautiful clean highways.

We need First Ladies who focus on important projects like this. They should stay away from personal issues in my opinion, they should take big things that Make America Beautiful, things that impact everyone for generations like Lady Bird Johnson's beautification of our highways program.

WOW, that's some bottom Lopez has!!! The men will like that even if they don't like her politics.
