    Dallas Mayor Candidate: John Cappello

Hey guys. I have sent a small survey to mayor candidates in Dallas. I have gotten a few replies to the survey. I'll post here what John Cappello had to say.

Notice he refused to answer the first two questions, but does chime in on the next one:

Q: Farmers Branch, TX is considering passing proposals aimed at stopping the towns influx of illegal aliens and rising crime rate. The propsals include punishing employers and property owners who knowingly hire/rent to illegal aliens and making English the towns official langauge. If elected Mayor of Dallas would you support or oppose this proposal?

    A: No.

Q: Opposite the Farmers Branch laws some cities (San Francisco, Houston, Chicago, etc.) actually forbid city officials and employees from assisting Federal immigration agents. If you were to make a choice about this would you support or oppose it?

    A: No.

Q: President Bush is allowing hundreds of Mexican trucking companies into the USA starting on May 1st. Many of these trucks will travel through Dallas on 35 HWY. Do you think is a good plan or not? Why or Why not?

A: This is an argument for the Trans Texas Corridor. I do not want any more traffic and congestion on our roads if we can avoid it. Diesel engines are the number one polluter of the air and more trucks affect maintenance of our roads. We need more trade but I am concerned about the plan and will review it.

Q: Some cities and counties are applying for Immigration and Customs Enforcement training so that they can have the power to move forward with illegal aliens arrested for crimes. This training is available to local jurisdictions so that they can move on deportation processes instead of waiting on ICE. Many local citizens have cited recent drunk-driving murders and the gun fight on Houston highways as a reason to do this. Would you as Mayor consider this training? Why or Why not?

A: The resources of the Dallas Police Department are spread very thin at this time; however, as personnel and resources continue to expand I would consider additional training. Public safety is the number one priority for any form of government and when someone breaks the law we need to hold them accountable.

Q: Ok this is your freebie, tell us why we should vote for you. What is it you have that other candidates do not?

A: My 13 years of experience working on a variety of civic issues makes me uniquely qualified to be Mayor. The West Dallas area of Dallas has been designated the 4th poorest area in the country and the most difficult area of Dallas to make a living. The record of achievement we have in this area working with the business and residential community is historic. Our work with the most severe environmental problems, housing, infrastructure, and crime in Dallas give me the knowledge and expertise no other candidate has in this race. My education in economics and business allow me to bring additional skills to the job.

The work of our chamber and community leaders is bringing a billion dollars of new projects to West Dallas. These projects include a new shopping center, more infrastructure, a community college facility, over 1000 new houses, and a new DART Rail line to the area. I have been an advocate for the disadvantaged and want to bring my ability to work with others to Dallas City Hall.

while he isn't the greatest he is the only one who has expressed a medium-strong opinion about the federal immigration training for police officers.

not saying he is the best, i am sure there is a better one out there.. but i have not found them yet.

the other candidate I have received word from said yes, but only if they were 'criminals' and went on to specify that they had to commit a local crime first. That was Zac Crain by the way.
