    Millions just don't get it!!

Here is a letter to the editor in The Oregonian. I thought this man's opinion and knowledge was something that millions, and our government need to think about.

"One day while I was in a bunker in Vietnam, a sniper round went over my head. The person who fired that weapon was not a terrorist, a rebel, and extremist or a so-called insurgent.

The Vietnamese individual who tried to kill me was a citizen of Vietnam, who did not want me in his country. This truth escapes millions."

I wonder if we are more civilized than that. Sometimes I wonder people seem to be at the end of their rope! I have to admit I feel that way sometimes.

What upsets me... well, this week. I know the government is actively pursuing a couple who has refused to pay taxes for some number of years. These American Citizens are considered outlaws. Why is it, that... MILLIONS of people are allowed to come over, take our health care, utilize our services, take our jobs, sit in our schools and NOT PAY TAXES?! Why are these people not more actively pursued. My GOSH these people alone could balance the budget if they were forced to pay taxes like legal citizens are forced to do.

How are these immigrants taking jobs American's don't want? I'm so sick and tired of hearing that. These are jobs that Americans are no longer OFFERED. Besides, I know there is an illegal immigrant who umpires for the MLB league. What American wouldn't want that job? Heck... the Dog Whisperer is an illegal immigrant. What American wouldn't want to have their own Television show? ABSURD!!!!

    Welcome to ALIPAC!

That's one of the main grievances against illegal immigration. Americans don't feel like they are being treated fairly and this is our country.

That's why it's important for us to pay attention to, and obey the laws of the land. Including, groan, paying taxes. ...I'm for a modified flat tax, or consumption tax myself, but until then I will pay what my accountant (read: interpreter) tells me to.

We could discuss the tax issues all day long, and I think the one thing we would all agree on is that there needs to be some sort of tax system in order to maintain the basic needs this country has, military, services to the elderly and handicapped (who have no one else), and all else we need to maintain a decent life for Americans.

The point this man made was very profound I felt, although I do not think he was advocating that we take up arms and go sharp shooting at illegal aliens. He was merely stating that when shot at by a Vietnamese citizen in Vietnam, all becasue he was not wanted there, considered an interloper, he got the message loud and clear. Yet, Americans have said in force (between 80-90%) that they want illegal aliens out.

You'd think they could understand that?

He forgot to mention the sniper was a citizen of the "Peoples Republic of Vietnam" (North Vietnam). The US was there assisting the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) at their invitation. As to which government the Vietnamese people preferred, when the Communist north took over the entire country, 2 million of them escaped by whatever means they could. It's not quite as simple as the writer leads you to believe.

Its an illegal tax anyhow, struck down by the supreme court in in the early 1900's. He is asking a simple question, "show me the law that says I have to pay INCOME taxes!" They cant, because their is no such law. I dont understand how that jury convicted him.

To be honest I'm not sure what this writer is trying to say as I can take it in several different ways.

Ronster, I have had a hard time digesting the supposed laws about taxes, and the other side of it, but I do know this, from all that I have read, taxes were originally supposed to be only at state level, then what was needed (?I might be saying this wrong) was sent onto the federal level from each state.

Anyways, the courts can say anything they want, it does not mean it is always true and right. Our system is so terribly corrupted, from what it used to be and what it should be, that how can we know when they are telling us the truth or not?

Mountaindog, I think what he was saying, politics of Vietnam aside, that he understood that shot to mean that Vietnam was not his country and here was a citizen saying that, in deed not words. Although we may have been there under the right reasons, to help those who did not want to be communist, to many Vietnamese citizens we were there illegally, that is what I beleive this writer was referring to.
