Watching Mexican Consular Card In Action

Call it a coincidence or call it a rampant and common event, but I stood there and watched the whole thing.

Ran to Publix tonight. Had two items so went to the front to check out.
I walk up and the manager is about on the third $100.00 bill holding each one up to a light for a second, for obvious reasons.

I look next to me, it is an Hispanic male. The manager continues going through these $100.00 bills, to my best estimate it added up to $1700.00.

All the while a cashier is looking very seriously and carefully at this card with a red and green stripe across the top. She said, "I don't like this. I don't know what this is?"

The manager replied, "It's a Mexican driver's license."

The cashier said, "Yea, but I don't like this form of ID,
it isn't giving me the information I need."

I'm standing there (just the three of us and I'm right with them). I'm barely breathing and I look like this:

Making that quick mental decision not to remain silent, I said, "I know a lot about ID cards. That is a Mexican Consular Card."

The Mexican (obviously) guy, looked at me, and sort of smiled, like, YEA, you're right. He also nodded yes.

I didn't know what else to say. The cashier just could not stop investigating the card, turning it over and upside down, and she FELT SURE that the ID was not in accordance to what she needed.

The manager, did not seem particularly pleased either but it seemed as though he was going to go ahead with the transaction.

There is a place right there in Publix to send money and do transactions.
It seems pretty obvious that I was watching most likely illegally earned money being electronically sent to Mexico tonight.

Do you want to call it a coincidence? Or would you prefer to believe that this is how commonplace it is becoming. I think the last choice is probably the most truthful one.

I'd just like to add that this was very sad to watch. What really struck me was not so much what was taking place, but to watch the cashier and the manager being scammed.

The cashier was a black American and the manager was a white American.
Here were two Americans feeling very unsure about this "official looking, but highly lacking card", and it was obvious the cashier was feeling something is NOT right here.

But the manager seemed to almost be thinking that it would be useless to try to properly handle the situation, and began letting down his guard and probably even his training on these things.

What was so sad was to know that these two hard-working Americans were actually being scammed by their own president.

I wish you all could have been there to have watched. I can't explain how sad, serious and quiet those five to eight minutes seemed.
