Contribution Question (or rather problem with)...

Today I noticed that Paypal is an option and, as a busy ebay seller, I thought this would be a convenient way to make regular, percentage based contributions with each sale. I was floored when I clicked on this contribution site only to find a lofty 25.00 was the minimum (suggested?) donation. More disturbing was the amount of personal information required to make said donations.

    Grey Parrot:

We truly appreciate a contribution of any amount and especially those that would contribute monthly. Although ALIPAC is specifically designed to encourage small donations combined with grass roots activism, we suggest at least $25 for the once a year contributors because we do not want to many people to go too low on a yearly basis for us to survive.

A $25 contribution to be listed as a supporter for a year is only $2 per month.

On personal data, we have a strict privacy policy found on the top tool bar.

We need a person's name, mailing address, city state and zip for mailings and thank you notices, but also because the FEC (Federal Elections Commission) requires us to have this information in our records.

We obviously need your phone number and email in case our data is complete or if we run into some problem on the final end of the transaction. To date, we have not needed to call anyone to figure out anything but we need the number in case.

The request for employer and occupation field is a Federal Requirement. We do not have to share this data with the FEC for our $200 or less per year contributors. The data must be kept out of FEC concerns about bundling of donations from corporations.

Bundling is an illegal campaign fund raising tool where a manager or "volunteer" walks through and office or factory floor with a box and every employee is expected to put a check in there to a candidate or PAC.

Please notice our policy and know that we do all we can to protect your privacy and make things as simple as possible, but we must operate under the law just as any other PAC or Congressional campaign must. Failure to do so could result in heavy fines.

Tancredo and Team America PAC and the NRA etc... all must play by the same rules we do. I don't know if they make 501(c) non-profits collect as much data but all 527 non-profits like ALIPAC must.
