A Honduran man who was convicted of assault in association with a Philadelphia murder was deported June 11 by ERO. Full Story

A Guatemalan fugitive wanted for murder and aggravated robbery was deported Wednesday and turned over to law enforcement authorities. Full Story

June 9, 2015 – Kentucky man sentenced to 13 years for sex trafficking operation

Kentucky man was sentenced on June 9 to 13 years in prison for operating a sex trafficking scheme with his son. The sentencing follows an investigation by the Central Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force, which includes HSI. Full Story

Federal jury convicts Houston man of transporting, harboring illegal aliens
Eduardo Luis Pompa, 26, from Houston, Texas, was convicted following a 45-minute jury deliberation. During the trial, evidence established that Pompa served as a scout for an alien smuggling organization. In that role, he drove ahead or behind vehicles transporting illegal aliens to look for law enforcement.

ICE deports El Salvadoran to face murder charges
According to Salvadoran authorities Miguel Orellana-Hernandez, 27, was allegedly involved in the March 7 gang-related killing of Andrés Ernesto Oliva Tejada, prosecuting attorney in the homicide unit of the Salvadoran Attorney General’s Office. Olivia was shot several times and killed by MS-13 gang members while he parked his car.

ERO officers handed Darlin Navarro-Turcios over to Honduran authorities June 11 after officers took him into custody near his home May 29 following his release from a Philadelphia jail.

New Jersey man admits smuggling $65 million in sensitive electronics to Russian military, security services
Alexander Brazhnikov Jr., 36, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Moscow, pleaded guilty to an information charging him with one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, one count of conspiracy to smuggle electronics from the United States, and one count of conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

New Jersey fire chief arrested on state charges of sharing child pornography on fire station computers
John Terruso, 44, of Marlton, New Jersey, chief of the Audubon Park (New Jersey) Volunteer Fire Company, was arrested Wednesday night on state charges of second-degree distribution of child pornography and third-degree possession of child pornography.

President Obama Signs HERO Act of 2015
The HERO Act of 2015 is Title III of S.178, Justice for Victims Trafficking Act of 2015. It amends the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to direct the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to operate, within ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), a Cyber Crimes Center to provide investigative assistance, training and equipment to support domestic and international investigations by ICE of cyber-related crimes.

Special Agent Matthew Baechtle, the lead agent in the Chucky Taylor investigation, was working three separate arms trafficking cases while assigned to HSI Washington, D.C., all of which involved American citizens trafficking weapons to Liberia (in violation of the Arms Export Control Act).

Chicago-area business owner arrested for selling unlicensed sports merchandise
Jeff Huang, 61, of Mount Prospect, Illinois, was arrested June 9 and charged with five counts of unauthorized use of a trademark, a class-one felony. He was placed on electronic monitoring during his bond hearing June 10 at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse.

Alabama man sentenced to 140 years on multiple child pornography charges
Jeremy Joseph Nelson, 42, of Madison County, previously pleaded guilty in February to producing child pornography between 2012 and 2014, possessing child pornography depicting children under the age of 12, and distributing child pornography.

Keith A. Arrick Sr., 47, of Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky, was sentenced in U.S. District Court today to 13 years in prison for sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion.

South Texas man sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for trafficking nearly a half-ton of marijuana
Jaime Cisneros, 50, of Roma, Texas, pleaded guilty Feb. 2 to possessing with intent to distribute about 434 kilograms (957 pounds) of marijuana.

Members and associates of various white supremacist organizations get lengthy sentences in north Texas for roles in drug trafficking conspiracy
Brandon Crow, 30, of Garland, Texas, was sentenced to 240 months in federal prison, and Rhonda Long, aka “Queen Saltine,” 51, of Mesquite, Texas, was sentenced to 188 months in federal prison. Both pleaded guilty in January 2015 to one count of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.

ICE special agent in Arizona rescues man from burning vehicle
Gussoni and his fiancée Amber Bass, a nurse practitioner, were driving along I-10 in Cochise County, Arizona, on their way to have lunch with a retired HSI special agent May 30. Traffic began to slow, and when they came around the bend, the couple saw why. A Jeep had flipped over, was on its roof and smoke was pouring out of it.

Businessman sent to prison for $53 million tax scheme
William Anthony Huff, 53, was a businessman who orchestrated a $53 million fraud on the IRS and other schemes, spanning four states, involving tax violations, bank bribery, fraud on bank regulators, and the fraudulent purchase of an insurance company.

Washington state man sentenced to more than 6 ½ years in federal prison for meth crime, ordered to forfeit $278,000
Chief District Court Judge Dana Christensen sentenced Mark Irvin Roberts, 50, of Newport, Washington, to 78 months in prison, five years of supervised release, and $5,000 in restitution, in addition to forfeiting $278,370 in connection with the offense.

Final smuggler responsible for an overcrowded Houston stash house that held 115 smuggled aliens was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison
Benjamin Granados-Lupian, 32, from Mexico, pleaded guilty to smuggling charges about one month after his arrest. He was convicted of conspiracy to harbor and transport illegal aliens and using a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. The following five co-conspirators were convicted of the same charges: Jose Aviles-Villa, 32, Antonio Barruquet-Hildeberta, 46, Jonathan Solorzano-Tavila, 30, Jose Cesmas-Borja, 26, and Eugenio Sesmas-Borja, 20.

DEA St. Louis and federal, state, and local counterparts today announced 51 drug and weapons arrests aimed at the most violent heroin traffickers and criminal organizations in the St. Louis region.
