SAN DIEGO — Sixteen suspected unauthorized immigrants were taken into custody early Monday in Carmel Valley.
A San Diego police officer spotted several people with wet clothes and sand on their feet getting into a van near Carmel Valley Road about 4:30 a.m., San Diego police said.
He followed the van onto south interstate 5 and then pulled it over just north of the I-5/Interstate 805 merge, police said.
Everyone in the van was detained and turned over to the Border Patrol, police said.
