Woman Found Dead Near Border Fence May Have Fallen

BROWNSVILLE - Police are working with the Mexican consul to identify a woman found dead near the border fence.

Brownsville police believe the woman found dead was an illegal immigrant. Investigators said they believe she fell after climbing over the border barricade.

Isabel Rangel lives down the street and said "this happens almost every single day." After six years on the block, she said it is time to leave.

"I'm afraid. I tell my husband I don't want to be here anymore.

Sometimes they are over there in my backyard. I don't want to be here," she said.

The mother of three said she has watched as more and more people tempt fate by climbing the fence.

The border fence is approximately 22 feet tall. There is an opening in the fence about a quarter of a mile away from the area where the woman's body was found. Rangel said people climb over the metal bars instead of walking through the gap.

She said some people have used ladders to climb over the fence.

Brownsville Police Department Spokesman J.J. Trevino said if she did in fact fall, this is the first death they have reported from the fence.

They are waiting for an autopsy to determine her cause of death.

Name Released of Woman Found Dead Near Border Wall

BROWNSVILLE - Police have released the name of a woman found dead along the border wall on Monday.

Investigators identified her as a Honduran woman named Judith Orfa Jimene Pereira.

The 31-year old was found on the 200 block of San Felipe Drive.

A preliminary autopsy showed she died of natural causes.
