[Watch] Honduras First Lady Tours Induction Detention Centers in Texas – Hollow Message For Parents

Posted on 29 June, 2014 by Rick Wells

The First Lady of Honduras, Ana García de Hernandez, is touring the facilities where the citizens of her nation are being warehoused as they attempt to gain status in the United States.

The Honduran First Lady asked a group of 300 at the induction center two questions: who has family in the United States and who has a contact number of someone in the United States. She said everyone raised their hands.
She says to her that indicates that aside from the violence and poverty, there is a desire to reunite with their families. Economics is not a valid consideration for the establishment of refugee status and many have been alerted to the need to claim to be fearful of physical injury or death in order to qualify.
Hernandez requested that the parents in Honduras stop sending their children alone, indicating that it’s okay with her if they violate American sovereignty, just so long as they are safe doing it, bring a “border buddy.”

She raises the point of the danger and the likelihood that young girls will be raped along the way. Responsibility for that reality can be shared by the perpetrators, the parents, the Honduran government and the Democrats within the United States government who played a role in placing them in the situation.
The Hondurans, like most Hispanics, pride themselves on strong family values, but what kind of parent sends their daughter out to fend for herself under those circumstances? They’re dumping their children in the laps of the American people. It’s heartless, dangerous, irresponsible and callous and makes a mockery of their claims of strong family values.
What the Honduran First Lady should be doing is getting the identity, address, and names of the parents of every child we are warehousing in Texas and other locations from the immigration processors. She should then direct Honduran officials to have their parents in Honduras arrested on child endangerment or the Honduran equivalent. If their primitive, backwoods dirt roads country doesn’t have such a statute, now would be the time to write one.
Rather than paying extortion to the Honduran government to keep their people home, the United States should be deducting the amount each of these people costs us annually from the foreign aid we send them. As it stands now, there is no incentive for the government of Honduras to do anything but wish them the best of luck and wait for the Western Union remittances to start flowing in.
Rep Henry Cuellar (D-TX) says that the federal government is working to speed up the deportation process and that the law is being tweaked to allow for the immediate repatriation of Central Americans in a manner similar to that of illegal alien Mexicans.
That’s strange talk coming from a Democrat, but he says the issue is bigger than party. If he’s honestly speaking his convictions, that’s a refreshing and hopeful deviation from the party line.
