Jill Kelley, social liaison to MacDill Air Force Base, is mystery woman Paula Broadwell harassed via email leading to FBI probe

Jill Kelley, 37, of Tampa, Fla., reportedly alerted the FBI several months ago about threatening emails she had received from Petraeus alleged mistress, biographer Paula Broadwell, a senior military official told the Associated Press.

The mystery woman who blew the lid off former CIA Director David Petraeus’ career-ending affair is also tied to the military — a sexy social liaison for an Air Force base in Tampa who says she and the ex-general are just “friends.”

Jill Kelley, 37, a married mother of three from the Gulf Coast city, alerted the FBI several months ago after receiving emails from Petraeus’ alleged mistress, biographer Paula Broadwell, warning the stunning Tampa socialite to “stay away from” the spymaster, according to sources with knowledge of the messages.

The raven-haired Kelley, who has an unpaid position as a social planner for MacDill Air Force Base, insisted in a statement Sunday her relationship with the retired four-star general and ex-CIA director was platonic, dating to when Petraeus ran the U.S. Central Command from the base.

“We and our family have been friends with Gen. Petraeus and his family for over five years,” Kelley said. “We respect his family’s privacy and want the same for us and our three children.”

But Broadwell’s father said Sunday his daughter is the victim of character assassination and implied the bombshell story is just a smoke screen for something bigger.

“This is about something else entirely, and the truth will come out,” Broadwell’s dad, Paul Krantz, told the Daily News outside his home in Bismarck, N.D.

“There is a lot more that is going to come out,” said Krantz, claiming he was not allowed to elaborate. “You wait and see. There’s a lot more here than meets the eye.”

He said he supports his daughter “100%.”

“I stand by my daughter. She is an exceptional person,” Krantz told The News, adding that Broadwell, a West Point grad, and her family were “doing well, considering.”

Kelley has not spoken publicly about the scandal. She and her husband, Dr. Scott Kelley, were busy Sunday entertaining guests at a birthday party for one of their daughters at their colonial-style mansion overlooking Tampa’s Hillsborough Bay.

In an exclusive photo obtained by The News, the Kelleys appeared worried while speaking with Vice Adm. Robert Harward, deputy commander of the Central Command, who showed up at the party in his white dress uniform.

Jill Kelley was raised in Philadelphia, where her family settled in the mid-1970s and opened a Middle Eastern restaurant after immigrating from Lebanon. Her father, John Khawam, was a renowned organist in Lebanon.

Members of Congress want to know whether national security was ever compromised in the Petraeus affair.

A close friend of Petraeus told ABC News that Kelley saw the general often, but their relationship was innocent.

“It is very clear there was nothing going on other than friendship between Kelley and Petraeus,” the friend said.

In 2010, Kelley and her husband, a surgeon at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, invited Petraeus and his wife of 38 years, Holly, to be their guests at a party for the Gasparilla parade, an annual pirate-themed festival in Tampa. At the time, Petraeus ran the Central Command from MacDill.

Kelley’s 7-year-old daughter, Caroline, even posted a family photo album online that she dedicated to her parents and included family photos — one of her and her sisters posing with Petraeus.

“I was with Gen. Petraeus. He came to my house,” Caroline wrote.

Broadwell’s extended family members were completely caught off guard by the news of Petraeus’ shocking resignation, which broke Friday.

“They didn’t find out about the affair until they saw it on the news Friday night,” the grandmother of Broadwell’s husband, Scott, told The News. “Everyone’s reaction was shock. We were all shell-shocked.”

Paula Broadwell, author of the David Petraeus biography "All In," poses for photos in Charlotte, N.C. Petraeus, the retired four-star general renowned for taking charge of the military campaigns in Iraq and then Afghanistan, abruptly resigned Friday, Nov. 9, 2012 as director of the CIA, admitting to an extramarital affair.

The grandmother, who would only give her first name, Sylvia, described Paula Broadwell as “intelligent and really smart.”

“She’s too smart for that,” said Sylvia, adding that her grandson is “a wonderful father to those two young kids.”

She said Scott Broadwell’s parents in Sanibel, Fla., “felt like the rug was pulled out from under them.”

“It’s a sad situation,” the grandmother said.

Petraeus began seeing Paula Broadwell, a writer with a military background, on the side in 2011, several months after he retired from the military, but ended the romance about four months ago, sources told ABC News.

BuzzFeed, citing sources, said he took her on a government-funded trip to Paris in July 2011.
Russell Broadwell, Scott’s father, confirmed to The News that he, too, was astonished by the news he first heard on TV Friday.
Asked if he has spoken to his son, Broadwell said, “Of course, he’s my son.” He refused to further comment.

Paula Broadwell, 40 (above), wrote the biography “All In: The Education of General David Petraeus.” She has yet to publicly comment on the scandal that has rocked Washington and the U.S. security community.

A source told The Wall Street Journal that Broadwell, who lives in North Carolina, became jealous when she suspected Kelley was in a romantic relationship with Petraeus.

Kelley’s twin sister, Natalie Khawam, is a lawyer who represents whistleblowers, but there was no indication Sunday that she was representing her sister.

The FBI probe into the menacing emails uncovered other exchanges between Broadwell and Petraeus’ personal email account that made clear their relationship had gone beyond professional limits, including one that talked about “sex under a desk.”

The scandal is spreading beyond the participants into the political arena. Several top lawmakers are demanding more information about what the FBI, the CIA and President Obama knew — and when they knew it.

Obama accepted the 60-year-old Petraeus’ resignation Friday, a mere three days after his reelection.

Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Wash.) confirmed Sunday he first learned of the affair several months ago from a friend who knows Kelley. Reichert told House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), who put Kelley in touch with FBI Director Robert Mueller.

Cantor’s staff didn’t immediately tell the House Intelligence Committee or other House leaders because they didn’t know whether the information was credible, Fox News reported.

Retired U.S. Army Col. Steve Boylan, Petraeus’ former spokesman, said the general is kicking himself for his atrocious lack of judgment.

“He hugely regrets what happened,” Boylan told ABC News. “He pretty much threw away the best job he ever had and put his family through something just too hard to describe.”

One feels sorry for both General Petraeus’ wife and for radiologist Dr. Broadwell, the deceived spouses.

Why not call the lady in the affair by her name before she married: Paula Krantz

Why does the Benghazi affair remind me of President Lyndon Johnson’s calling back the flights of fighter planes on their way to rescue the USS Liberty from Israeli attack? Could it be because Johnson’s Zionist-sympathizer mistress spent the night with him at just that critical period?

Paula Broadwell: Top 10 Facts You Need to Know
    posted2 days agoby Sandy Fitzgerald

LATEST UPDATE, NOV. 12: MEET THE OTHER, OTHER WOMAN — WHO GOT PAULA'S EMAILS TO STAY AWAY FROM 'HER MAN' ... SPARKING THE FBI PROBE

People are talking about Paula Kranz Broadwell, the younger other woman who brought down Gen. David Petraeus.

Broadwell, Petraeus' biographer, became involved with the general years ago while he was still in charge of the troops in Afghanistan, and reportedly the couple cut off their affair after he was named CIA director in 2011.

Until now, Broadwell was a highly respected writer and speaker, with the academic credentials to back up her reputation. She's easy on the eyes, but the general may have been as enamored with her brain as he was with her body.
    So what's behind Paula Broadwell?

    1. Other Than Where Petraeus is Concerned, She's Brilliant

Broadwell is a research associate at Harvard's Center for Public Leadership and a doctoral candidate in the Department of War Studies, King's College, London, according to the Penguin Speakers Bureau, which schedules her appearances. She is a 1995 graduate of the West Point Military Academy with degrees in Political Geography and Systems Engineering, and she has earned a master's degree with honors from the University of Denver’s Josef Korbel School of International Studies and an MPA degree from Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

    2. She Could Probably Kick Your Ass

Broadwell is a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, having graduated in 1995 from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. While there, she graduated with academic and leadership honors, but most importantly for this point, she graduated at the top of her class for physical prowess. And she hasn't slacked much during the years since. She also reportedly enjoys running, skiing, cycling, triathlon, surfing, kayaking, weight lifting and kickboxing.

Oh, and she's also good at shooting things.

    3. Name a Country, She's Probably Been There

Broadwell has lived worked in or traveled in more than 60 countries during her 15 years of military service, including serving with the U.S. Intelligence community, U.S. Special Operations Command and the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Forces.

    4. The Petraeus Book Isn't Her Only Work

While much has been said about the book "All In" being like a "valentine" to the disgraced CIA leader, it's not like Broadwell had an affair with the guy and wrote nice things about him without having a set of highly impressive credentials first. She has written for the Kings of War and Foreign Policy’s Best Defense blogs, and she has published op-eds in The New York Times, International Herald Tribune, Christian Science Monitor, and The Boston Globe. She's written chapters in books on counterinsurgency, transformational leadership, and women in defense, and has contributed to national TV networks, BBC radio and National Public Radio on similar topics.

    5. She Gave Up Her Skydiving Trip Today to a Disabled Vet

Army Corporal David Bixler never got to jump out of a plane when he was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division in Afghanistan, but instead lost both legs in an explosion in 2010. Thanks to Broadwell, he's got his chance. She was supposed to have gone up for her birthday — ironically, it was today, Nov. 9, while all the big news was coming out — but she donated her jump to Bixler, who jumped on Nov. 2.

Oh, and while the rest of the world was finding out all the dirt on her? She was in Charlotte, meeting Bixler and saying she and her husband would help him find a job when he’s ready.

“He’s so amazingly positive, it just makes you cry,” she said.

    6. She Put her Dissertation on Hold for Petraeus

Broadwell traveled to Afghanistan to travel with Petraeus and "I got a great perspective of the war through his eyes. That is what I wanted, was the war through the commander's eyes."

But did she get too close? Apparently. She went on runs with him, followed him to battlefield visits and watched how he handled the burden of command.
    Among other things.

    7. She Felt Safe in Afghanistan

She says her attire made her stand out, not her gender or role as a writer:
I never felt threatened as a Westerner, nor did I feel that out of place as a female journalist. As you know, many female journalists have covered Afghanistan over the years, and a significant number of women serve in the military ... so I wasn't that much of an anomaly. In the field, however, I was probably more of a curiosity for the children, who rarely saw other women, much less a Western woman, and much less a woman in jeans and Kevlar.

    8. She Wanted to Bring Attention to Wounded Warriors
My intention with this tour is to bring attention to ‘Wounded Warriors.' Over half a million soldiers have debilitation post-traumatic stress disorder, and as a society we need to draw attention to that and welcome them back.

    9. Her Husband is a Prominent Doctor

Her husband, Dr. Scott Broadwell, is a prominent doctor in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area. The couple have two small children.

    10. She's a Lot Younger than Petraeus and his Wife, Holly

Broadwell just turned 40 years old today, but Petraeus is 60 and his wife is of similar age. They've been married for 37 years, or if you want to do the math, for about as long as Broadwell has been alive. Holly's father was the superintendent at West Point when Petraeus graduated.

The truth will come out': Father of Petraeus' mistress defends his daughter and claims her affair is part of bigger scandal

    • Paul Kranz described daughter Paula Broadwell as an 'exceptional person'
    • Mr Kranz, a retired basketball coach, told MailOnline that the shock his family has been dealt is 'just the beginning of a process'
    • General Petraeus stepped down as CIA director on Friday after it was revealed he had been cheating on his wife of 38 years with his biographer

The father of David Petraeus' mistress Paula Broadwell defended his daughter today as an 'exceptional person', saying he supports her 100 per cent after details of her sordid affair with the decorated general were made public.

General Petraeus's relationship with Broadwell, his biographer, was revealed on Friday after an FBI investigation which suspected corruption between the pair.

Broadwell's father Paul Kranz, a retired high school basketball coach, suggested that the explosive revelations that led to Petraeus resigning as CIA director, have been used to cover up a bigger scandal.

Mr Kranz told MailOnline today that the shock of the past few days is 'just the beginning of a process'.
He spoke this morning on the snow-covered drive of his modest bungalow in Bismarck, North Dakota, where he lives with wife Nadene. He said: 'I've been advised by attorneys not to talk right now. This is private property.

'I hope you understand this is the beginning of a process. I can't say more than that. I couldn't if I wanted to.'

On Sunday, Mr Kranz elaborated further on the scandal which has propelled his 40-year-old daughter into the national media glare. He told the Daily News: 'This is about something else entirely, and the truth will come out.'

Shock revelations: Paula Broadwell, who has two young sons, pictured with her entire family

High school hero: Paula Kranz (left in her yearbook photo) was valedictorian, student council president and homecoming queen (right)

Other members of Broadwell's family seemed similarly shaken, revealing that they only learned of the alleged affair as they watched reports of Petraeus's dramatic resignation last week.

'They didn’t find out about the affair until they saw it on the news Friday night,' the grandmother of Broadwell's husband, Scott, added.

'Everyone's reaction was shock. We were all shell-shocked.'

Petraeus quit his post as CIA director while offering an apology over the affair. He issued a statement acknowledging the affair after President Obama accepted his resignation, which was announced by the CIA soon after.

‘After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair,' he said in the statement.

'Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours. This afternoon, the president graciously accepted my resignation.’
David Petraeus' wife is so angry at his affair with his biographer that 'furious would be an understatement', a former spokesman for the ex-CIA boss has revealed.
Secrets: Paula Broadwell (second left) watches as General David Petraeus (right) and his wife Holly Petraeus (third left) arrive for a Senate Select Intelligence Committee in 2011

Speaking to ABC News, Col Steven Boylan said Holly Petraeus, who has been married to the former general for 38 years, is 'not exactly pleased right now'.

Her husband's affair was discovered when Mrs Broadwell, 40, sent a spate of threatening emails to 37-year-old Jill Kelley, who works for the State Department, warning her to 'stay away' from Petraeus.
Paula Broadwell, a 40-year-old graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and an Army Reserve officer, is married to Dr Scott Broadwell and has two young sons, Lucien and Landon.

The family live in Charlotte, North Carolina. She has not responded to multiple emails and phone messages.

Old days: Broadwell (top row, second left) is pictured at a friend's wedding when she attended West Point

Glamor: Paula Broadwell with her husband Dr Scott Broadwell at a black-tie event to raise money for military charities

Broadwell, who spent three years doing researching for her book, had extensive access to Petraeus in Afghanistan.
In the biography, Broadwell revealed she first met him during his visit to Harvard in spring 2006 when he was a Commander at Fort Leavenworth.
'I was among the students invited by the school to meet with the general at a dinner afterward, because of my military background,' she explained.
'I introduced myself to then–Lieutenant General Petraeus and told him about my research interests; he gave me his card and offered to put me in touch with other researchers and service members working on the same issues.'

Deception: General Petraeus resigned as director of the CIA on Friday after coming clean that he had been cheating on his wife of 38 years, Holly (pictured right)

A Woman Scorned? It is being claimed that the affair between David Petraeus and Paula Broadwell emerged after she sent threatening emails to Ms Kelley

Awkward: Holly Petraeus (left in white) and Paula Broadwell sit in the front row during the CIA confirmation hearing of US Army General David Petraeus

Meanwhile, information has emerged about Jill Kelley who allegedly received harassing emails from Broadwell, leading federal investigators to discover Petraeus' sexual indiscretion.
Kelley, 37, lives in Tampa, Florida and serves as an unpaid social liaison to MacDill Air Force Base, where the military's Central Command and Special Operations Command are located.

Staffers for Petraeus, who turns 60 on Wednesday, said Kelley and her husband were regular guests at events he held at Central Command headquarters.
In a statement on Sunday, Kelley and her husband, Scott, said: 'We and our family have been friends with Gen. Petraeus and his family for over five years. We respect his and his family's privacy and want the same for us and our three children.'
A friend of Mrs Kelley told ABC News that she and Petraeus were close, but that the relationship never went any farther than friendship.
Jealous: Broadwell sent Jill Kelley, far right, threatening emails warning her to stay away from Petraeus. Pictured with Kelley is her husband, Scott, and Holly Petraeus

Success: Paula Broadwell, West Point graduate and military expert, on her book tour for the General Petraeus biography, All In

A military official who identified Kelley said she had received harassing emails from Broadwell, which led the FBI to examine her email account and eventually discover her relationship with Petraeus.
The new revelation raises the possibility that Broadwell was growing increasingly jealous of a government employee whose job it was to keep in contact with Petraeus.
Mrs Kelley, who feared for her safety, contacted the FBI.
It is also claimed that Broadwell used Petraeus' own Gmail account to send the emails, and when the FBI began to investigate an obvious national security issue instead uncovered explicit messages between the two sent from the decorated war hero's own account - indicating an affair.
She frequently visited the spy agency's headquarters in Langley, Virginia, to meet Petraeus in his office, accompanied him on morning runs around the CIA grounds and often attended public functions as his guest, according to two ex-intelligence officials.
Petraeus broke off the steamy relationship with Broadwell before it was exposed by the FBI probe, according to friends of the retired general.
The FBI contacted Petraeus and other intelligence officials, and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper asked Petraeus to resign.

First time around: Linda Robinson was the first biographer of Petraeus. In 2008, she published Tell Me How This Ends: General David Petraeus and the Search for a Way Out of Iraq

A former associate of Petraeus confirmed the target of the emails was Kelley, but said there was no affair between the two, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the retired general's private life. The associate said Kelley and her husband were longtime friends of Petraeus and his wife.
It has also come to light that Broadwell isn't the only biographer of Petraeus's who has gotten special treatment from him.
His first biographer, former U.S. News and World Reporter Linda Robinson, went to work for Petraeus at U.S. Central Command shortly after publishing her book, 'Tell Me How This Ends: General David Petraeus and the Search for a Way Out of Iraq.'
Petraeus' affair with Broadwell will be the subject of meetings on Wednesday involving congressional intelligence committee leaders, FBI deputy director Sean Joyce and CIA deputy director Michael Morell.
Petraeus had been scheduled to appear before congressional committees on Thursday to testify about the September 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens.

Morell was expected to testify in place of Petraeus, and lawmakers said he should have the answers to their questions.
But Feinstein and others didn't rule out the possibility that Congress will compel Petraeus to testify about Benghazi at a later date, even though he's relinquished his job.
Clapper was told by the Justice Department of the Petraeus investigation last week at about 5 pm on Election Day, and then called Petraeus and urged him to resign, according to a senior U.S. intelligence official.
FBI officials said the congressional committees weren't informed until Friday because the matter started as a criminal investigation into harassing emails allegedly sent by Broadwell to Kelley.
Concerned that emails Petraeus exchanged with Broadwell raised the possibility of a security breach, the FBI brought the matter up with him directly.
Petraeus decided to quit, though he was breaking no laws by having an affair.

PAULA BROADWELL’S GHOSTWRITER HAD ‘NO IDEA’ ABOUT AFFAIR

Paula Broadwell’s affair with CIA Director David Petraeus has long since become the spiciest of DC gossip stories, with just a little bit of national security risk to add to the tawdriness.

However, for a torrid affair that seems to have been going on for some time, one thing sticks out about the relationship between Petraeus and Broadwell – namely, very few people seem to have suspected its existence. In fact, according to none other than Broadwell’s co-author on her biography of Petraeus – Washington Post editor Vernon Loeb – the relationship seemed almost outlandishly difficult to imagine. Loeb writes about his bewilderment in today’s Washington Post, describing Petraeus and Broadwell as seemingly the least likely people to have an affair, least of all with each other:

I never anticipated the extramarital affair between David H. Petraeus and Paula Broadwell, the woman I’d worked with for 16 months on a book about Petraeus’s year commanding the war in Afghanistan. On rare occasions, her good looks and close access would prompt a colleague to raise an eyebrow about their relationship, but I never took it seriously.[...]

I assumed, given how public their semi-official relationship was, that he would never engage in any risky behavior. He’d always preached to his protégés that character was what you did when no one was watching. And he would always hasten to add, from his most public of perches, that “someone is always watching.”
There was no protégé more ardent than Broadwell.

as these fools are fired and retired

they find themselves also in the cross hairs of the Patriot Act; the NDAA and all of the other WACKO legislation they themselves created

Welcome to WACKOLAND David Petraeus and I guess you are the highest ranking fool so you just become the Mayor
    -------------------------------------------

BETRAYUS could still lose his retirement if brought up on UCMJ charges that occured retroactive when he was still on active duty. Ditto the other four-star clown. Where in god's name did these two assholes find time to generate 'thousands' of emails while serving as commanders over 'hundreds of thousands' of active duty troops?

    God help our military ..
