US Gives Mexico 5 Helicopters to Aid Drug War

US sends 5 helicopters to help Mexico combat drug cartels, part of $604 million aid package

By E. EDUARDO CASTILLO Associated Press Writer
MEXICO CITY December 15, 2009 (AP)

U.S. Assistant to the President Barack Obama for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism John O. Brennan, left, and U.S. Air Force Gen. Victor E. Renuart Jr. watch a helicopter during a ceremony in Mexico City, Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009. The U.S. government has given Mexico five helicopters to use in its fight against drug cartels.

The aircraft are part of more than $604 million worth of vehicles and equipment that the U.S. plans to give Mexico in the coming months.

"The helicopters that we are handing over today are very important substantively and symbolically in our cooperation, but they are only a part of the chain of many important milestones in meeting these challenges," said John Brennan, assistant to President Barack Obama for homeland security and counterterrorism.

In addition to the more than $1.1 billion worth of aid the U.S. has pledged to provide Mexico, Brennan said U.S. and Mexican officials are planning new programs to help Mexico professionalize its police forces and strengthen its justice system.

When the U.S. Congress approved the first $400 million aid installment in June 2008, more than 4,000 people had died in Mexico's drug-related violence under Calderon's watch. Three years later, the death toll stands at more than 14,000.

MEXICO, coming to a city or town near you. Whether you like it or not !

Why should we expect the Mexican military to respect the border? The rest of their population doesn't.

The U.S. military is not allowed to police us, it's prohibited by the Constitution. But it's ok for a foreign military to police us?

Gonzalez, the Zapata sheriff, said he couldn't confirm reports that the helicopter was scoping out the home of a drug criminal.

Corruption cases were opened last year on 576 CBP officers and Border Patrol agents.
I wonder what happened to the agent that helped his buddy, the drug dealer, file the complaint against Ramos and Campean?

    - Express-News BROWNSVILLE — The Zapata County sheriff Thursday was questioning why a Mexican military helicopter was hovering over homes on the Texas side of the Rio Grande.

It was one of the more jarring incidents of the fourth week of border tensions sparked by drug killings, and rumors of such killings, in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas.

Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez said he'd reviewed photos of the chopper flown by armed personnel Tuesday over a residential area known as Falcon Heights-Falcon Village near the binational Falcon Lake, just south of the Starr-Zapata county line. He said the helicopter appeared to have the insignia of the Mexican navy.

“It's always been said that the Mexican military does in fact ... that there have been incursions,â€

I have had some ummm involvement with the drug industry. I can guarantee that 98% goes through Mexican and American government chanells either by DEA inforcment stratagems or government sales to fund wars or Mexico for profit. This supposed war is a total farce. Bend over America...government cares nada for you or your kids.

BROWNSVILLE — U.S. officials Friday downplayed the sighting of a Mexican military helicopter hovering as long as 20 minutes over a residential area on the Texas side of the border this week, saying the incursion didn't cause alarm even though it hadn't been cleared in advance.

U.S. agencies could offer no reports of a follow-up investigation and no indication whether a Mexican explanation had been asked for or given.

Give me the names of the u.s. officials that said this.

What agency are we talking about that says it is no big deal for Foreign Military flights over the United States?

Statement by Gov. Perry on Recent Reports of a Mexican Helicopter Incursion into Texas

    March 12, 2010

AUSTIN – Gov. Perry today issued the following statement following reports of a Mexican helicopter incursion into Texas:

“As violence escalates in Mexican border cities, it’s critically important for Texas, U.S. and Mexican law enforcement to communicate and appropriately coordinate our efforts to combat border crime and protect legitimate cross-border trade and travel. Zapata County Sheriff Sigi Gonzalez, Texas Department of Public Safety and U.S. Border Patrol are working to gather more information about a recently reported helicopter incursion into our airspace, and we hope to soon learn all the facts surrounding this incident.

“The helicopter incursion and uptick in violence in Mexican border communities underscore the urgent need for more U.S. law enforcement and surveillance along the Texas-Mexico border. I once again urge our federal government to add personnel and technology along the Texas-Mexico border to prevent spillover violence here and to combat drug cartels operating in the border region.â€
