Illegal Immigration on Reservation

The Tohono Odham indian reservation covers some 2.8 million square acres. 75 miles are directly on the Mexican border and that’s posed a challenge for the police department.

Sergeant Vinscent Garcia says officers encounter illegal immigration at least 65 times a week, that’s about 30 percent of their work load.

The nation’s police chief Joseph Delgado says drug and human smuggling is not only a problem for his department, but for the community, “I know the aliens walk thru sacred sites, they walk thru people’s yards thru property they have no respect for none of this leaving behind garbage, trash and trashing the lands of the nation.â€
