King calls upon Obama to take a stand on immigration
    Lindsay Blake, Staff Writer

WASHINGTON - Congressman Steve King, top Republican on the House Immigration Subcommittee, is calling upon President-elect Obama to nominate someone to head the Department of Homeland Security who will enforce the law, secure the border, stop welfare to illegal aliens, support English as the official language and crack down on employers who ignore the immigration laws.

This after Governor Janet Napolitano, of Arizona, was selected as a possible nominee. If nominated and confirmed by the Senate, Napolitano would take over the newest and third-largest department in Obama's Cabinet.

"If President-elect Obama chooses Governor Napolitano to be his top immigration enforcement official, it sends a message of lax law enforcement to those who would violate our immigration laws," King said. "Napolitano presides over the Arizona-Mexico border, which is by far the most porous southern border of all 50 states."

Arizona shares a 370-mile border with Mexico.

Napolitano vetoed a bill declaring English to be the official language of Arizona as well as a bill that would prohibit taxpayers from being forced to pay for in-state tuition for illegal aliens.

"At a time where 9.5 million Americans are looking for work, this is the wrong time to encourage employers to hire illegal workers," King said. "Lax borders and hand-off worksite enforcement will take jobs away from American workers."

Remember, each of Obama's appointments has to be CONFIRMED. We have a right to protest those which we feel may be unsuitable, and presenting an organized email and vocal call-in opposition to Napolitano's appointment because she is someone whom we feel will be lax on immigration law enforcement may be a good way to signal that we have not "gone away" since the amnesty legislation was defeated last summer!

This also would serve to impress upon the Democrats and the new Administration that immigration law enforcement is not just a "Republican issue".
