MANASSAS, Va. (AP) - Prince William County supervisors have rejected a woman's appointment to a tourism board, citing her argument that the county's immigration policy is racist.

Katherine Gotthardt's appointment to the Prince William County/Manassas Convention and Visitors Bureau was defeated by county supervisors 5-3.

Gotthardt wrote on her blog last year that the county's crackdown on illegal immigration was "racism" and "ethnic cleansing by definition."

Supervisor Maureen Caddigan was among those upset by the accusations and accused Gotthardt of hating the county.

Prince William's immigration policy took effect last year. It requires police to check the legal status of everyone taken into custody for an alleged local or state crime.
