De Pere man gets 15 months for harboring 2 aliens

MILWAUKEE - Federal prosecutors in Milwaukee say a restaurant owner in De Pere has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for harboring illegal aliens.

A jury convicted 45-year-old Yu Tian Li of harboring two Chinese nationals in his home last year. Prosecutors say Li underpaid the workers.

Judge William Griesbach criticized Li on Thursday for victimizing undocumented workers and gaining an unfair advantage over law-abiding competitors. As part of the sentence, Griesbach fined Li $10,000 and ordered Li to forfeit his home because that's where he kept the workers.

Li owned and ran the China King Buffet restaurant in De Pere.



His attorney did not immediately return a telephone message left Thursday afternoon.

If I'm not mistaken, that China Buffet chain was mentioned as a place here where they were basicly holding either illegals, or even legal, but new, practically hostage for work.
