AZ-Make-shift drug ramp goes bad
Make-shift drug ramp goes bad
TUCSON, AZ - A drug smuggler's attempt to drive his truck over a vehicle barrier at the US/Mexico border by using a make-shift ramp proved unsuccessful Monday, says Border Patrol.
Border Patrol agents were patrolling the border near San Miguel, AZ, when they discovered a pickup truck trapped on top of the vehicle barrier separating the US and Mexico. The truck apparently became stuck when a smuggler attempted to use a make-shift ramp to drive over the barrier.
The ramp consisted of two, 2-feet wide paths, one for each vehicle track. The driver had to stay on the paths in order to cross the barrier. The driver veered off the path, causing the wheels to slip off, and wedging the truck awkwardly on the ramp.
Agents searched the vehicle with the help of a canine unit and identified a concealed compartment underneath the bed of the truck. Inside the compartment agents found 22 bundles of marijuana weighing approximately 314 pounds with an estimated street value of $251,200.
The vehicle, ramps and marijuana were seized. The marijuana was transferred over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

I would think a double-layered fence with sensors would be a little more difficult to navigate. At the very least the crossing would be more time consuming, which IMO, would give BP more time to detect and catch the crossers."The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**
