CA Sen. Gil Cedillo (D) and his "Dream Act" SB1460

"Allow illegal immigrants to receive state-administered financial aid to attend state universities. Sen. Gil Cedillo (D-Los Angeles) said his so-called California Dream Act, SB 1460, would help young people who in many cases were brought to this country by undocumented parents. Sen. Bob Dutton (R-Rancho Cucamonga) voted against the bill, saying, "We don't even have enough money to provide financial aid for students that are here legally, let alone ones that are here illegally."

Already, campuses from Humboldt to San Diego are raising fees, shedding courses, slashing enrollment, and compelling faculty and staff to take unpaid furlough days. Class sizes are up, library hours are down, and long-held dreams for new programs and schools are on hold.

And Cedillo (who has for a long time now championed the cause for CA driver's licenses for illegals) want us to pay for the education of illegals. Whats next.

The best Marshall Plan for Mexico would be strict American immigration enforcement. Having an increase in their bilingual high school educated population would help these students legal home countries. Gil Cedillo is trying to consolidate an ethnic based political patronage machine.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Gil Cedillo is a reconquista traitor and a prime example of what happens when illegal invaders and those concerned with advancing ethno-centric politics vote.

You get losers like gil cedillo in office. I'm sure we will see his beloved drivers licenses for illegal invaders come up again this sesion..

California Dream Act Clears Senate, Headed To Assembly

Bill Previously Vetoed 3 Times By Schwarzenegger

    POSTED: 6:43 pm PDT June 4, 2010
    UPDATED: 10:47 am PDT June 5, 2010

SAN DIEGO -- A bill that provides financial aid for illegal immigrants at state schools has cleared the Senate, but it must be approved by the California State Assembly before Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will have to decide whether to veto it for a fourth time.

For University of California, San Diego student Yohanna Bernardo, the California Dream Act could be her chance to finish school. Recently, the simple act of studying has been impossible for her.

"It's stressful thinking about it all the time," said Bernardo.

The stress for Bernardo began in high school when the honor student was told by her parents, who arrived from the Philippines when she was 4, that she was an illegal immigrant.

"It was really scary. I didn't know what to think. It took me a while to come to terms with it," said Bernardo.

On the list of worries -- the financial aid she was counting on was no longer an option. Additionally, halfway through her first year at school, she had to leave for a year to work.

"I feel it's unfair. I feel education is a human right, especially for those who want to pursue it," said Bernardo.

If the California Dream Act becomes law, it would open up financial aid for some illegal immigrants at state schools. Sources inside advocacy groups said there are several dozen such students at local state schools.

However, critics of the bill said it sends a bad message.

"It validates the illegal act and encourages future illegal immigration," said former U.S. Attorney Peter Nunez.

Anti-illegal immigration activists call the law a magnet and a costly one.

"At a point where California can't pay for anything, why are we looking for a way to spend money on people who are here illegally?" said Nunez.

It is unclear how much the bill would cost the state, and some estimates place the number of students at less than 1 percent of those enrolled at state schools.

Schwarzenegger has cited the state's budget woes in vetoing the bill three previous times.

This time, however, supporters are more hopeful because Schwarzenegger's proposed budget cuts spare higher education.

As for Bernardo's education, it is unclear when she will graduate, unless she gets some aid.

"It would be the happiest day of my life. My future would be brighter," said Bernardo.

Schwarzenegger's office has not yet said if he plans to veto the bill again.

Meanwhile, a federal version of the Dream Act, introduced last year, is stalled in Congress. The federal version would provide a path to citizenship for many of those students.
