Latinos land 2 in 3 U.S. construction jobs

WASHINGTON, March 7 (UPI) -- Latinos make up 13.6 percent of the U.S. employment population, but accounted for 36.7 percent of the 2006 U.S. employment growth, a study showed Wednesday.

Most of the jobs Hispanic workers landed were in the construction industry, the Pew Hispanic Center said.

In fact, two out of every three new U.S. constriction jobs went to Hispanic workers, the center said.

Hispanic employment increased by almost 1 million from 2005 to 2006, with foreign-born Latinos who arrived since 2000 responsible for about 24 percent of the total U.S. employment increase.

Undocumented immigrants accounted for about two-thirds of the increase in recently arrived Hispanic workers, the center estimated.

The center derived its estimates from Bureau of Labor Statistics and Census Bureau data, it said.

They don’t have to take anything. The government is more than willing to give it to them

This is certainly here in UT. You can drive to any new housing subdivision being built, and its doubtful you'll find an actual American worker actually doing the work. Its sad to say, but typically the American workers are the greedy contractors sitting on their fat ass in their brand new trucks.

I live in an area where new homes and businesses are being built by Spanish speaking illegals. It makes me sick to think that some of our own American brothers and sisters would turn on us for the almighty dollar by hiring these criminal illegal's. My only hope is that their evil deeds will come back on them and break them.

Same here, sippy. Furthermore, once the construction is done, the landscaping companies that are sent in to seed, plant, etc. are mostly comprised of criminal aliens. That's an easy assumption for me to make in view of a study that came out last year commenting that 7 out of 10 Hispanics in the state were criminal aliens.

I recently saw the same thing, but on a home improvement, rather
than on new house construction. I spent a year getting bids
to have a pool fence replaced--only two sides of a fence surrounding
a very small pool. The first bid was for $15,000 to replace
53 linear feet of fence. (The fence was would have been constructed
in a factory in Mexico.) Finally, I got some reasonable bids and
decided on (not the lowest bid) from a Swedish heritage American.
I specified I wanted no illegal workers. He assured me that
his subcontractor would not use illegals.

When I returned home the day the work was being done, I
saw the American contracter and his Latino subcontractor
(American of Spanish and Mexican descent) standing, talking
as two workers worked. One had a blow torch (or equivalent)
and the other did clean up. It didn't talk long to see that
neither real worker spoke English. Both contractors drove
new vehicles. I strongly suspect the two Spanish speaking real workers
were illegals. Now I suspect the subcontractor is probably not paying
the taxes he should be paying.

Since I live in So. Cal, I have to be careful about vendettas, but I wish
there was a way to report violators anonymously and be assured
that there would be an investigation. But the govt seems to only want
    to focus on violent criminals.

These "fat cats" are making money illegally.
