Senator: DOT is ‘arrogant and wrong’ to continue Mexico
Senator: DOT is ‘arrogant and wrong’ to continue Mexico trucking program
U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan
The Trucker News Services
1/3/2008
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND) took strong issue Thursday with last week’s decision by the U.S. Department of Transportation to continue the demonstration program allowing Mexican long-haul trucks into the United States — despite a provision in a law authored by Dorgan that he says was meant to shut the program down. In a letter to Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters, Dorgan said such a response is “both arrogant and wrong.â€Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

violation of federal law
If the Department of Transportation continues the pilot program that began last September, it will be clearly and directly in violation of federal law, Dorgan asserted in his letter to Peters.
Does Dorgan understand that illegal aliens are also against federal law. Enforce the laws we have do not write new ones and while you are at it how about funding the laws on the books.
Stop the Mexican trucks and ALL illegal aliens. I do not care what country you are from. Come theough the legal system and you will be welcomed.

Overall, Dorgan is not perfect on immigration related issues:
Here's his NumbersUSA analysis: http://grades.betterimmigration.com/tes ... &VIPID=506
However, is one of the better Dems in the US Senate at the moment and has been good in representing our point of view (again, not perfect, but pretty good).
I would ask that you consider that he is taking on:
a). The Boosh Administration
b). The DoT (Dept. of Trans) - headed by a boosh appointee
c). Many big lobbying / industry groups
... to come out with such an opposed view. He's trying to do the right thing and he needs the average American's support and respect.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Seems that they should, since when does a DOT official stand above the law? Hey, but then again, I'm not PhredE.

U.S. ignoring ban on Mexican trucks, senator charges
By DAVE MONTGOMERY
McClatchy Newspapers
WASHINGTON | The Bush administration is allowing Mexican trucks to continue to travel deep into the United States despite what critics say is a congressional mandate to ban the trucks from U.S. highways.
Congress voted last year to halt funding for a pilot program that allows Mexican 18-wheelers to begin traveling freely into United States as part of the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement. The Department of Transportation contends, however, that the congressional action permits the current program to continue while banning any new program.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Department of Transportation agency that regulates the program, quietly acknowledged last week that the program is still under way, adding that it has issued permits to 11 Mexican companies with a total of 56 trucks. Mexican trucks previously were confined to a 25-mile border zone.
Sen. Byron Dorgan, a North Dakota Democrat, in a letter Thursday to Transportation Secretary Mary Peters, scoffed at that interpretation and called on the Bush administration to end the program immediately.

We all know that Transportation Secretary Mary Peters is following up on what Bush wants done. Bush is in difiance of federal law. His blantent disrespect for the law is just a crosscut of his attitude as President for the last 7 loooonnnnnggg years. Acting like a thug and a traitor must mean to him he's powerful, he's on a false head trip, embolden by none other than the CFR and his daddy. We should have put this weasle in a straight jacket years ago. He's not fit to be where he is. I believe the man is mentally challenged.
