NC Sen. John Snow response to my letter re: HB1942

Thank you for your email I just wanted to let you know that based on legislation we passed last night State agencies will be required to check a federal database to verify that newly hired employees are authorized to work in the United States . In addition, the budget provides funds to hire legal staff in the Office of State Personnel to make sure North Carolina is in compliance with federal laws regarding the employment of foreign nationals. I think these two measures will help us in the fight against illegal aliens in North Carolina.

The Senate also voted to eliminate the use of the Individual Taxpayer ID Number (ITIN) as a valid identification document for driver’s license applicants. The Internal Revenue Service, which issues the ITIN to taxpayers but does not verify their lawful presence in the United States, has cautioned states against accepting this federal document as proof of identity for driver’s licenses.

    Take care,

    John Snow

Subject: Pass HB1942 Today !! No Delays Please !!

We want our North Carolina leadership to hear the cries of their constituents by immediately passing HB1942. Please no longer delay or postpone HB1942 as we, the taxpayers of North Carolina demand this law be passed. We are watching closely to see who in our Senate will represent the people of North Carolina's interests and who will represent only the wishes of corporations who take advantage of slave labor rates.

Also, while you are at it... please pass a law to end the insane practice of providing driver's licenses to undocumented and unlawful aliens, terrorists. These unsavory characters then use their N.C. license to enter other states in many cases for drug trafficking and gang related activities. Providing a driver's license to an undocumented immigrant is totally irresponsible. Frankly I am going to join a petition group throughout the country asking other states in the US to NOT accept a North Carolina driver's license as proof of identity

    Received this from Basnight:

Thank you so much for your recent letter regarding House Bill 1942, Verify Public Employee Legal Status/Funds legislation. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to write and for informing me of your concerns.

While the Senate did not bring up House Bill 1942, the Senate did vote to require State agencies to check a federal database to verify that newly hired employees are authorized to work in the United States. In addition, the budget provides funds to hire legal staff in the Office of State Personnel to make sure North Carolina is in compliance with federal laws regarding the employment of foreign nationals.

Again, I appreciate your taking the time and effort to write and share your views with me. Please feel free to write to me whenever any issue of interest to you is brought before the North Carolina General Assembly

    Sincerely,

    Marc Basnight
