A Green Bay man jailed for the last 134 days on child abuse allegations was sentenced to time served Friday for spanking a 5-year-old with a belt.

Salomon Rodriguez, 28, is now being held on a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer and is expected to be deported, court officials said Friday.

Brown County Circuit Court Judge William Atkinson sentenced Rodriguez, an illegal immigrant, to six months in jail and gave him credit for time served, which includes a good time formula in which Rodriquez earns early release by following jailhouse rules.

Rodriguez in August pleaded guilty to a felony charge of child abuse-recklessly causing injury. A companion charge of misdemeanor child neglect was dropped as part of the plea deal.

Officials at the 5-year-old girl's school in May noticed bruises from her left arm to her elbow and on her buttock, according to the criminal complaint. They called the Brown County Human Services' Child Protection Intake Unit with their concerns, according to the complaint.

The girl said Rodriguez spanked her when she wanted to call a family member in Milwaukee because she was scared to be alone with her 1-year-old brother. The girl said she used her arm to block the belt Rodriguez used to spank her, the complaint said.
