Alert! Please urge support of E-Verify and help save American jobs!

The current, voluntary E-Verify program* expires at the end of September. Its extension and expansion are a key part of our efforts to stem illegal immigration. We will make efforts to attach it to other popular legislation.

Senators have introduced three E-Verify amendments to the Travel Promotion Act, S 1023. Senator Charles Grassley has sponsored SA 1346, which would require federal contractors to use E-Verify. Senator Jeff Sessions has sponsored two amendments. SA 1307 would extend the E-Verify program for a period of 5 years; SA 1308 would permanently re-authorize E-Verify and make it mandatory for federal contractors and any business that receives stimulus funds.

CAPS takes no position on the underlying bill, S 1023, but it is important to support E-Verify at every opportunity. Please click here to learn more and to take action.

*E-Verify is an Internet based system operated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in partnership with the Social Security Administration (SSA) that allows participating employers to electronically verify the employment eligibility of their newly hired employees.

E-Verify is free and voluntary and is the best means available for determining employment eligibility of new hires and the validity of their Social Security Numbers.
