North Texas voters will cast ballots today in city and school elections across the area.

Several high-profile city races have featured heated debates, personal attacks and criticisms of incumbents. Meanwhile, four school districts are each asking for millions of dollars for campus construction, improvement and expansion projects.

The Farmers Branch mayoral race features City Council member Tim O’Hare, a leader in efforts to oust illegal immigrants, against real estate agent Gene Bledsoe, a critic of city spending. Four people are running for the council seat Mr. O’Hare is vacating to run for mayor.

Early voting turnout in that city topped all other Dallas County races.

High voter turnout is also expected in Irving’s heated and sometimes personal election, where seven people are vying for three seats. Incumbent Mayor Herbert A. Gears is being challenged by former council member Roland Jeter and former building inspector Rigo Reza. Incumbent council members Allan E. Meagher and Rose Cannaday face respective challengers Nancy Rivera and Sue Richardson.
