Keep those District Calls and Visits in Support of TRUE Enforcement Coming!

First, FAIR would like to thank everyone who has reached out to their House member in support of TRUE Enforcement thus far. Second, we ask that you continue calling and visiting your representative's district office this week. Soon after returning from Thanksgiving recess on December 5, the House is expected to begin consideration of immigration enforcement and border security legislation. That makes this week CRUNCH TIME for getting cosponsors and congressional support for the Hunter-Goode TRUE Enforcement and Border Security Act, H.R. 4313. This bill is the ONLY solution to America's illegal immigration crisis before Congress. No other bill comes close.

Please keep lobbying your representative's district office, pressing your member to cosponsor TRUE Enforcement, and keep us posted on how your efforts are going. Contact FAIR's government relations department (202-328-7004) if you have questions, need assistance, or have news to report regarding your representative's position on TRUE Enforcement.

This bill is the litmus test to determine if your House member is serious about immigration enforcement. Make sure your representative knows that the only way to prove he/she is serious about enforcing our immigration laws and controlling the borders is to sponsor and support this bill.

Specter Drafts Immigration Bill that Dramatically Increases Legal Immigration

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter (R-PA) has authored draft legislation that creates a new foreign worker program and dramatically increases legal immigration - some estimate by more than 1 million a year! The Washington Times reports that Specter's goal in putting out the bill was to assert his committee's jurisdiction over the issue in preparation for a major Senate debate early next year over immigration overhaul legislation. His draft bill includes amnesty provisions from several of his colleagues' bills, including letting currently resident illegal aliens return home for a short time then re-enter the United States and eventually gain U.S. citizenship.

Specter's action is yet another testament to the burning immediacy of building support for the TRUE Enforcement and Border Security Act. TRUE Enforcement is the solution, anything else is unacceptable. Specter's draft bill is a preview of what the Senate has in store for America and a forewarning of the battle ahead.

Bush Makes Desperate Attempt to Save Unpopular Plan Granting Amnesty to Illegal Aliens

President Bush spoke this afternoon in Arizona, trying, once again, to sell the idea of a massive illegal alien amnesty and the admission of millions of additional foreign "guest" workers as "immigration reform." While the president's address includes tougher-than-usual talk on border security and immigration enforcement, the administration's continuing actions over the past several months reveal he has no intention of carrying through on his promises to the American public. FAIR is calling on the White House to follow the lead of members of Congress who have shown they are serious about getting immigration laws enforced, pointing in particular to the Hunter-Goode TRUE Enforcement and Border Security Act.

Under the Bush proposal, the estimated 11 million illegal aliens currently in the U.S. would be reclassified as "temporary workers," and be allowed to remain here for up to six years. In addition, the president and top members of his administration have repeatedly called for the unlimited admission of additional foreign workers in an effort to "match willing workers in other countries with willing employers in this country," at whatever wages the employer wishes to pay.
