    FAIR Urgent Thanksgiving Action Plan

Urgent Thanksgiving Recess Action Plan for TRUE Enforcement

    Lobby District Offices

Two Week Thanksgiving Recess Begins - House Members Working in District Offices

Both the House and Senate left Washington late Friday to begin Thanksgiving recess. The House is expected to begin consideration of immigration enforcement/border security legislation soon after returning from recess on December 5. This means the next two weeks are CRUNCH TIME for building support for the ONLY comprehensive bill that provides a solution to the illegal immigration crisis, the TRUE Enforcement and Border Security Act, H.R. 4313, by Reps Duncan Hunter (R-CA) and Virgil Goode (R-CA).

As reported earlier, FAIR has learned that President Bush is working behind the scenes with sympathetic members of the House leadership to fool you into believing they are getting serious about immigration enforcement and border security. They are devising a weak bill they hope to introduce to take the limelight away from the TRUE Enforcement and Border Security Act. Following this slight of hand, the White House will demand that this limp-wristed "enforcement" bill be coupled in January or February with a Senate bill containing a massive amnesty/guest worker program. Unless this is stopped now, this plan will sell out the American worker, homeland security, and the hope of finally brining illegal immigration under control. Unless the TRUE Enforcement bill is passed, the Bush-backed bill will win out and they will have pulled the wool over the eyes of the American people - all for special interest business groups and cheap foreign labor.

ACTION REQUEST: Call/Visit Your House Representative's District Office Over Thanksgiving Recess

Please reach out to your House member's district office over the next two weeks with phone calls and personal visits in support of the TRUE Enforcement and Border Security Act.

Tell your House member that the only way to prove they are serious about enforcing immigration laws and controlling the borders is to sponsor and support this bill.

Visit our web site for contact information, the bill summary, and talking points that help you make the case for TRUE Enforcement.

Please keep us advised of progress made with your calls and visits so that we can keep score and follow up accordingly.

Contact FAIR's government relations department (202-328-7004) if you have questions, need assistance, or have intelligence to report regarding your House member's position on the bill. You can also share intelligence gathered through this feedback form on our web site.

TRUE Enforcement Bill Gains National Editorial Support

Last Friday, the Washington Times published an editorial by highly respected columnist Cal Thomas endorsing the TRUE Enforcement and Border Security Act. In addition, the highly influential Paul Weyrich of the Free Congress Foundation has issued a statement urging conservatives to abandon the Republican party if elected Republicans continue to place the interests of Wall Street ahead of the nations interests. He condemns elected officials of both parties for failure to enforce immigration laws against illegal immigration and calls for reductions in legal immigration as well.

Bipartisan Enforcement First Bill Introduced in Senate

The growing national consensus in support of enforcement of America's immigration laws finally reached the United States Senate. Following closely on the heels of the House introduction of the Hunter/Goode TRUE Enforcement and Border Security Act, H.R. 4313, Senators Ben Nelson (D-NE), Jeff Sessions (R-AL), and Tom Coburn (R-OK) offered the Border Security and Interior Enforcement Improvement Act, S. 2061.

This new Senate bill is intended to offer a serious alternative to the illegal alien amnesty and guest worker proposals currently pending in the Senate and being discussed as a solution to the illegal immigration crisis. Like its House companion, the Senate measure provides for completion of the border fence from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico, strengthens border and interior enforcement, and provides incentives for state and local governments to actively participate in immigration enforcement. This new legislation was introduced quickly just as the Senate is adjourning for Thanksgiving recess with the expectation that these same senators will introduced even stronger legislation more closely resembling the comprehensive House bill early next year.
