Shaw / Klein Close Race

There is a close race in Broward / Palm Beach counties between US Rep Shaw and challenger Ron Klein, former FL state representative. Rep Shaw has a very impressive A-/A- immigration voting record at www.betterimmigration.com. However, one article below claims Shaw favors a guest worker program. Because it is so often difficult to ascertain the truth in politics anyone with good information on the race is encouraged to contact dave@flimen.org.

The candidates have similar, but not identical, views on immigration. Klein does not support amnesty or a guest worker program, for example. But he is more supportive of a government crackdown on business owners who employ immigrant workers ineligible for employment in the United States, Smoot said.

Likewise, in the closest Florida congressional race, immigration has yet to rise to the inflammatory level that talk show pundits say the issue will reach this election year. According to the staff of both Rep. Clay Shaw, the Republican incumbent, and Ron Klein, the Democratic challenger, immigration has fallen to the wayside, replaced bymore pressing matters such as Social Security, the prescription drug plan, and the skyrocketing cost of homeowners' insurance.

"Most recently Mr. Shaw has been fighting for the Republican House Immigration Bill which does little to address the problem of dealing with employers who higher illegal labor. On top of that he has been fighting for President Bush's guest worker program, widely seen as amnesty.
