Thread: More Trouble for E-Verify Please Help!!

Will you help spread in every way possible the word about our new petition campaign to persuade President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and Leader Reid to retain E-Verify amendments in the Homeland Security spending bill?

The U.S. Senate last week adopted four immigration-reduction amendments to the DHS Appropriations bill, H.R. 2898. They are:

* The Sessions amendment, which would permanently reauthorize E-Verify and mandate its use by all government contractors and subcontractors;
* The DeMint amendment, which would force DHS to complete the 700 miles of border fencing which has already been approved and funded;
* The Vitter amendment, which would force the Social Security Administration to continue their "No-Match" program (DHS Sec. Napolitano announced the termination of this program); and
* The Grassley amendment, which would allow employers that use E-Verify to run all of their current employees through the system, not just new hires.


The House-passed version only included a two-year extension of E-Verify. The bill will now be taken up by a House-Senate conference committee to reconcile the differences between the two bills.

Last February, President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and Senate Leader Reid stripped language out of the Stimulus Bill that would have kept illegal aliens from getting Stimulus jobs. We believe the three of them will strip out the Senate-passed measures this week if we don't create a nationwide uproar ahead of time.



NumbersUSA has initiated a petition campaign (see Roy Beck's email below) to convince President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and Senate Leader Reid to retain these enforcement measures. (This is a different kind of petition campaign in that as soon as somebody signs one, we will send it to the White House. Pelosi and Reid, on the other hand, will get daily deliveries.) We also are trying to enlist the help of talk radio hosts in driving people to sign the petition.



We are requesting your assistance in:


Promoting the petition link within your organizations and networks; and

Spreading the word about the petition to talk radio shows in your states.



We don't t have much time but if we all work together, we can create the uproar necessary to protect these measures. It is interesting to note how some in the media are portraying the Senate's s action as "resistance to change,", i.e., resistance to the "inevitable" comprehensive immigration reform. These four measures ARE real reform. If employed, they will free up jobs for unemployed Americans and create a climate in which fewer illegal aliens will be willing to remain in the U.S. waiting for amnesty.

Before noon today, it would be great to have sent at least 50,000 petitions into the White House to stop Pres. Obama from killing the great enforcement amendments passed by the Senate last week.

And we need another 100,000 signed petitions by the end of Monday!

We need to keep finding more friends, neighbors and fellow workers to sign this petition so we can send 100,000 every day until we know the job protections are safe.

Nothing short of a massive demonstration of public concern will save those Senate amendments.

This is not a regular petition that sits around until all signatures are gathered. NO, we will be delivering the new petition signatures to the White House HOURLY -- and to Speaker Pelosi and Senate Leader Reid DAILY.

We have to make an impression fast. Last February, Pres. Obama, Speaker Pelosi and Senate Leader Reid met in secret and stripped out of the Stimulus Bill language that would have kept illegal aliens from getting Stimulus jobs.

We will be going to all of the nation's Talk Radio hosts later Monday to ask them to join this petition campaign with all their influence to shine a spotlight so bright that Reid-Obama-Pelosi will feel it is too dangerous to kill the enforcement measures.

It is important that when the Talk Radio folks come to the petition page they see that a lot of people have already begun sending the petition. (We just posted the petition late last night. At this moment, it shows 153 signers.)

Please come to your action buffet and to our home page several times a day this week to see what new you can do to help save these great enforcement amendments.

Check the home page for the names of Senators and Representatives assigned to the joint Conference Committee who will decide whether to allow Pelosi, Obama and Reid to kill the E-Verify amendments. If any of them represent you, we will be placing further actions for you on your Action Buffet corkboard.
