    NumbersUSA on CNN’s Lou Dobbs to discuss security problems at DHS

    Many of you have asked that we let you know when we will have a significant TV presence. Tonight, Rosemary Jenks (NumbersUSA’s Director of Government Relations) and Mike Maxwell (the former head of the Office of Security and Investigations at the US Citizenship and Immigration Services part of Department of Homeland Security) will be in the New York studio with Lou Dobbs tonight.

    So go to the main CNN channel for the 6-7 p.m. EDT show.

    It usually is on again at 1 a.m. EDT.

    Check this link for air times in your area:

    NumbersUSA assisted the 9/11 Families for a Secure America and other victims groups yesterday in a rally across from the White House.

    The 578,020 petitions from Americans calling on the President for an immediate securing of the borders played a prominent role in the event.

    Click on the following link for a short report and photos:

    After the rally, many of the victims went to Capitol Hill and delivered part of the more than 1 million petitions that NumbersUSA had collected and printed to be distributed among the 100 Senators.

    We still have petitions for several Senators that have not yet been delivered. If you expect to be in Washington D.C. over the next couple of weeks, email to let us know if you would be interested in dropping by our Hill office and picking up some petitions to deliver to remaining Senators.

    For the past eight months, our Rosemary Jenks has worked behind-the-scenes with a high-level Department of Homeland Security (DHS) whistleblower, Mike Maxwell, to expose a major scandal in the DHS and to persuade the federal government to take these threats seriously.

    Mike has revealed that our entire immigration system is corrupted, and the physical safety of the American people is at stake. The facts of this case raise questions about whether any increase in immigration would be a security threat since DHS cannot handle the current workload in a way that ensures security for Americans.

    Copley News Service broke the DHS scandal in early March. Since then, the story has been covered in the Associated Press, the Washington Times, and on the CNN evening news (among other places).

    The story really picked up after Mike testified before International Terrorism and Nonproliferation Subcommittee of the Committee on International Relations (Rosemary has worked closely with Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), chair of the committee, to make this happen). Unfortunately, this came right in the middle of the battle in the Senate against amnesty-guestworker and the major illegal alien marches and it got a little lost in the shuffle in terms of our conveying this information to you.

    Some of the frightening highlights of what Mike told Congress:

    • DHS is not doing the security screening on large numbers of aliens who are being given work permits, residence and citizenship;

    • Nearly five years after the 9/11 tragedy, the DHS still has no idea whether many immigrants are members of organized crime syndicates, are on terrorist watch lists or have lived sordid lives of crime or other anti-social behavior;

    • These immigrant applicants just get waived through the line without full screening; At DHS, granting as many immigration benefits as fast as possible is nearly always the priority over providing for the physical security of American citizens;

    • Not only is it not presently possible for well-meaning DHS employees to provide for our physical security, but many DHS employees are intentionally endangering our lives. There are close to 500 pending complaints of criminal misconduct against DHS employees who are accused internally of espionage and acceptance of bribes, and even of helping suspected terrorists get permission to live here! Unfortunately, these cases are not being aggressively pursued because the agency's leaders refuse to provide the personnel or resources necessary to investigate them. And employees with allegations pending often continue to hold great power over who enters the country.

    Iraq spy suspect oversaw U.S. asylums
    By Stephen Dinan
    April 6, 2006

    An Iraqi-born U.S. citizen suspected of being a foreign intelligence agent was employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to rule on asylum applications, including those from unfriendly Middle Eastern nations, according to documents obtained from Congress by The Washington Times.

    Michael J. Maxwell, the former head of the Office of Security and Investigations at USCIS, is expected to testify about the Iraqi case and other breakdowns at the agency to a House subcommittee today.

    Mr. Maxwell will tell legislators that the immigration system is being used by enemy governments to place agents in the United States.

    The suspected agent, whose name has not been released, judged 180 asylum applications while at USCIS, the agency that also rules on green cards, citizenship and employment authorization.

    A database check during Mr. Maxwell's investigation turned up national-security questions about nearly two dozen of those cases.

    Mr. Maxwell will also tell the panel about criminal accusations pending against USCIS workers and that top USCIS officials have deceived Congress and obstructed the duties of his office, the agency's internal affairs division.

    "The immigration system as a whole is so broken that our adversaries can game it," Mr. Maxwell told The Times when asked about the documents this week. "I can assure you they're using it against us; they can with impunity."

    His testimony comes as the Senate debates whether to enact a guest-worker program that would allow current illegal aliens and future foreign workers a new path to citizenship.

    This wasn't sent to me until today. I checked the emails again at 11 pm last night. I don't know why that happens sometimes.

    These two I believe were on Lou Dobbs. He said the FBI are constantly harassing him to no end, but he has nothing to hide.
