As immigration reform becomes an increasingly hot topic, President Bush appears to have decided to further his agenda by rewarding illegal aliens with amnesty. Recently, the President has created a coalition called "Americans for Border and Economic Security," led by former Representatives Dick Armey (R-TX) and Cal Dooley (D-CA). This coalition appears to be designed to unite the business community around cheap labor and rewarding illegal aliens who will work for lower wages than legal workers.

As the LA Times reports, "The effort is designed to help Bush take control of an increasingly contentious debate that has threatened to split the Republican Party and undermine its outreach to Latino voters." This is a clear sign that President Bush is beholden to the pressures of the cheap labor lobby and is ignoring the fact that Americans want REAL immigration reform, such as border security, workplace verification, and employer sanctions as well as increased interior enforcement. In a cheap political maneuver, the President seems to be attempting to appease special interests and the cheap-labor lobby by rewarding illegal aliens with jobs.

The President, as well as former Congressman Armey, consider those in the Republican Party that desire true comprehensive immigration reform as "anti-immigrant" and "closed minded." It is outrageous that President Bush and his coalition would charge Americans and many Republican members of Congress with such insulting terms. The reality is that a majority of Americans believe that illegal immigration is a growing crisis that not only affects our national security, but also takes jobs away from the most vulnerable of Americans. Representative Tom Tancredo (R-CO) said it well when he stated that the Administration is simply creating an alliance with corporations who see migrants as a vehicle to greater profit. While few deny the importance of business to build a strong economy, a majority of businesspeople actually believe in the rule of law and do not hire illegal aliens. How can the President, his coalition and advisors be so confident that the U.S. economy rests on the work of illegal aliens, a group that represents only 4.3 percent of the civilian labor force?

Currently there are 14 million Americans that cannot find full time work, and the President's response is to build a coalition of various businesses to push through the agenda of special interests and cheap labor lobby. The solution is not reward them, but to show respect for the law and intensify enforcement upon the current illegal alien crisis. That is what the American people desire. Thank goodness for Representative Tom Tancredo, as he is speaking for the majority of American people. The fact that Rep. Tancredo and others who feel strongly about enforcement and not rewarding illegal aliens with amnesty and possible citizenship are labeled as "extreme right wingers" and "anti-immigrant" is outrageous! Just because a majority of Americans and members of Congress are not willing to reward lawbreakers with amnesty and possible U.S. citizenship for political gain does not mean they are extremists. In fact, they are sensible and believe in the rule of law and choose to protect Americans first in both the workplace and for security reasons!

Send this fax to President Bush expressing your indignation at his attempts to buy votes by rewarding illegal aliens and by his inflammatory charges against legal residents who want truly comprehensive immigration reform to build a better America.
