In an appearance on Face to Face with Jon Ralston on the NBC affiliate in Reno, Nev., Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the prospects of passing a mass amnesty in the new Congress are positive. Reid lists passing a mass amnesty as one of his top priorities for the 112th Congress.

"I think you're going to be surprised," Sen. Reid said when asked if passing an amnesty bill was possible. "I think you're going to find significant support from the press around the country. We have an interesting mix. We have organized labor and the Chamber of Commerce wanting something done, and I think this is the time to get something done. I think the answer is unequivocally yes, I think we can get something done."

Senator Reid said the tide is turning in favor of an amnesty.

"The tide is turning on this. This is not something that is going to be a lost program. We're going to get this done."

Senator Reid was asked if this was something Republicans had to do in order to woo Hispanic voters.

"I think that's part of it," Reid said. "But I also think it's something we have to do. We cannot have an immigration system that's broken. We have to fix it."

"I think we can get it done. I really do."
