    Unity08

In watching O'Rielly last night - he had Sam Waterston (L&O) as a guest. Waterston talked about forming a new political party.

Here's the link to their website -

    Sounds interesting.

Unity 08 sent me a ballot to vote for presidential candidate. Of the few candidates you could choose from, there was not ONE I could vote for. NO RON PAUL and NO TOM TANCREADO! And I sent them an email of disgust!

I know you have no interest in Duncan Hunter, but I do. Was his name on the ballot?

    Hey guys,

From what I understand in hearing bout them and reading their website - This is sooooo grassroots that THERE IS NO BALLOT SET UP YET.

They want to "draft" people, like Ron Paul, or Tom Tancredo or Duncan Hunter.

They want to put together a platform and bi-partisan candidates.

What interested me is that one of their SuperMajority Issues is immigration control and a "protect our borders" initiative.

I'm not clear on what other "planks" will be in their platform yet. But that one issue sure did get my attention.

The problem I have is this:

What do you mean by a Unity Ticket?
A Unity Ticket will consist of a woman and/or man from each major party running for President and Vice President, or by independents who assemble a Unity Team from both parties.

Unless I am reading this wrong, their site says that they are fed up with the two party system but their ticket will comprise of 1 democrat and 1 republican. I don't really understand the independents assemble a unity team from both parties part. Um, none of the dems are against amnesty so right there you lose me. I have voted for dems, repubs and independents in the past. If I am understanding correctly, we could not have a Tancredo/Hunter ticket on this?

I am not trying to bash, I think this is a great idea. The Repubs and Dems need a real wake up call. I just cannot support a candidate not in line with my views on Illegal Immigration.

I signed up on their list. I have not belonged to either party in over twenty five years. Truthfully, I am not even much of a voter any more: in my view, both parties offer some things I appreciate, but then there is the downside because they try to be inclusive to fringe groups.

I believe in social conservatism--strong moral standards, fiscal responsibility--, but I also want some politicians who can respect my sense of fairness, not welcome me as a predator who just fills their coffers. Our two major parties have predatorial people---some are perverted predators, others are financial predators.

My worry would be that any third party might end up in a spoiler role....

Does anyone have more info on this? This person is listed as one of their founders:

Magdaleno Rose-Avila, Seattle, Washington. Executive Director, Northwest Immigrants Rights Project.(NIRP)

According to the website the NIRP assists in deportation cases among other things
