TIRED OF PRESSING 1 FOR ENGLISH?

TIRED OF PRESSING 1 FOR ENGLISH?
Tell Democratic Leadership to Support the Alexander English Amendment!

How many times have you walked into a business where employees speak a language other than English? It can be very frustrating. Some businesses, such as the Salvation Army, have begun requiring employees to speak English while on the job. However, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has sued the Salvation Army because they believe requiring employees to speak English violates their civil rights!

Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) agrees with you that this is an outrage! He recently offered an amendment to the Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Bill (H.R. 3093), to prohibit federal funds from being used by the EEOC to sue employers for requiring English on the job. The Alexander English amendment passed the Senate Appropriations Committee and was included in the final version that passed the Senate on October 16.

When the House and the Senate met in a conference committee to reconcile their CJS bills, the House voted 218-186 (Roll Call 1076) to instruct the House conferees to agree with the Senate and keep the Alexander language.

However, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) have ordered that negotiations be indefinitely halted because they oppose allowing the Alexander English amendment being included in the CJS bill when it is sent to President Bush. This is dirty politics at its worst!

Your calls and activism are needed to tell Democrat leadership to stop holding the English language hostage! Both the House and Senate will be in recess over Thanksgiving. Be sure to drop in their district offices and call to let your Senators and Representatives know you want English spoken in the workplace! Support the Alexander English amendment in the CJS conference!

Businesses should not be worried they will be sued for requiring their employees to speak English on the job! We all know English is the key to success in America, as our original motto proclaims, E Pluribus Unum—one from many.

    Take Action

The CJS conference committee should immediately reconvene and vote to keep the Alexander English amendment that prohibits the EEOC from suing businesses that require English in the workplace.

House CJS Conferees: Mollohan, Kennedy, Fattah, Ruppersberger, Schiff, Honda, DeLauro, Price, Frelinghuysen, Culberson, Rogers, Latham, Aderholt, Obey, Lewis (CA)

Senate CJS Conferees: Mikulski, Inouye, Leahy, Kohl, Harkin, Dorgan, Feinstein, Reed, Lautenberg, Shelby, Gregg, Stevens, Domenici, McConnell, Hutchison, Brownback, Alexander, Byrd and Cochran

Democratic Leadership: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid

I think that when the equal opportunity rule was made it did not mean lanuage. This is the USA. It is and always has been an English speaking country. If you want to learn or speak another language more power to ya, however, when you do business, it should be done in Englihs. I think that the person who was not hired because of not being bi-lingual should call the ACLU and sue fior discrimination. If we don't take a stand now, where will it end. ARe we going to have to eventually learn 10 different languages to work and get along in this country? You are in USA LEARN ENGLISH OR GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM.

Please do your research before posting that Ron Paul does not support securing the borders!

From his homepage www.ronpaul08.com, under the issues column.......

    Border Security and Immigration Reform
The talk must stop. We must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked. This is my six point plan:

Physically secure our borders and coastlines. We must do whatever it takes to control entry into our country before we undertake complicated immigration reform proposals. Enforce visa rules. Immigration officials must track visa holders and deport anyone who overstays their visa or otherwise violates U.S. law. This is especially important when we recall that a number of 9/11 terrorists had expired visas.
No amnesty. Estimates suggest that 10 to 20 million people are in our country illegally. That’s a lot of people to reward for breaking our laws.
No welfare for illegal aliens. Americans have welcomed immigrants who seek opportunity, work hard, and play by the rules. But taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services.
End birthright citizenship. As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the incentive to enter the U.S. illegally will remain strong.
Pass true immigration reform. The current system is incoherent and unfair. But current reform proposals would allow up to 60 million more immigrants into our country, according to the Heritage Foundation. This is insanity. Legal immigrants from all countries should face the same rules and waiting periods.
If Palestine puts down their guns, there will be peace.
If Israel puts down their guns there will be no more Israel.
    Dick Morris
