The Boys in Blue - New York City's Not the UN's

The Associated Press reports this morning that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is asking New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to take NYC police officers off the streets in order to participate in UN peacekeeping missions like Kosovo and Sudan.
Tom Kilgannon, the President of Freedom Alliance and author of Diplomatic Divorce:
Why America Should End Its Love Affair With the United Nations, responded:“The Secretary General needs to open his eyes and realize that New York City’s police officers – especially those who walk the beat around First Avenue between 40th Street and 50th Street – are already on an international peacekeeping mission.
They are kept very busy with trivial tasks like writing out citations for cars with diplomatic plates that are illegally parked, to very serious jobs like putting their lives on the line defending international diplomats working at and visiting the UN.

The people of New York have to endure traffic jams, diplomatic snobbery and an architectural eyesore on the East River in order to accommodate the United Nations.

The American people give billions of dollars to the UN each year – more than any other country. Isn’t that enough,
[b]Mr. Secretary General? Keep your hands off our cops.â€
