$4 million in pot seized at San Luis port of entry

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- A federal spokesman says officers at the San Luis Port of Entry have seized two shipments of marijuana in recent days worth more than $4 million in all.

Customs and Border Protection spokesman Brian Levin says officers using a mobile X-ray system found irregularities in the roof of a semitrailer truck Thursday, and a narcotics dog smelled marijuana.

Officers discovered 428 packages of pot weighing a total of 2,369 pounds. The drugs were estimated to be worth more than $3.8 million.

Levin says officers found 52 packages of marijuana weighing a total of 136 pounds the next day concealed in a non-factory compartment of an automobile. The dope was estimated to be worth just under $221,000.

Levin says the drivers of the two vehicles were arrested.
