San Ysidro - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Ysidro port of entry conducting outbound inspections yesterday confiscated $59,831 hidden in a box of laundry detergent.

Wednesday morning at about 11:45 a.m., CBP officers encountered a 37-year-old male Mexican citizen as he walked towards Mexico. The traveler was stopped by an officer and upon questioning, became nervous. The officer escorted the man to the secondary area for a more in-depth inspection.

Officers searched the man and his belongings and discovered four vacuum sealed bags of bundles of U.S. currency hidden inside a sealed box of laundry soap.

CBP seized the money.
