Man jailed after 15th DUI arrest

    By By Paul Shockley
    Grand Junction, CO, Colorado,
A Fruita resident is being held at the Mesa County Jail on $20,000 bond facing a possible fifteenth alcohol-related driving charge in 24 years.

Gilberto M. Lopez, 44, a Mexican national whose immigration status wasn’t immediately clear, was pulled over driving a van by a Fruita police officer shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday — he was headed south on Highway 340, approaching Raptor Road. An arrest affidavit alleges Lopez was driving without headlights.

The officer alleged Lopez smelled of alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot — several empty beers cans were allegedly observed inside the van.

“I asked for his proof of insurance, registration and driver’s license, but he could not find any of them, even though he had them in his hand and wallet,â€

He's been here since at least 1984, and he still needs a Spanish interpreter. Unbelieveable!

Even if he was here legally, with that many felony's they could revoke his legal status and deport him infact they could have deported him after the first felony, What is wrong with these judges?

[quote]Lopez has six DUI-related felonies in Colorado, including cases in 2002 and 2000 for aggravated driving with a revoked license while DUI.

Lopez, who on Wednesday addressed County Court Judge Bruce Raaum through a [b]Spanish-language interpreter, asked for a low bond.

Paris Hilton went to jail for how long after how many dui arrests? And how many days was she in jail for? Yet this guy here probably illegally has 15 arrests and hasn't had his license revoked or been deported? The family of the unfortunate person who he kills after he is released ( because we all know he will be) better sue the state, government, and anyone else who allowed this to happen. 15 TIMES??? I shouldn't be shocked but I am. Martha Stewart goes to jail for allegedly lying and this guy has probably told his fair share and yet he's still allowed to roam free???

15 arrests and he was STILL driving??? Let the same thing happen to a citizen and they'll be talking about taking your car, putting you in jail, and paying fines!! What the heck is fair about that?
