Saban challenges Arpaio to series of debates
Saban challenges Arpaio to series of debates
June 17th, 2008 @ 3:30pm
by Bob McClay/KTAR
Dan Saban has issued a challenge to Joe Arpaio. The Democratic candidate for Maricopa County sheriff said he wants several debates with the man who currently holds the office.
Saban sent a letter to Arpaio asking for seven debates from July through October. Saban said debates with Arpaio would definitely be colorful.
"My opponent chooses to make things personal and he certainly does not have any patience for anyone that disagrees with him," said Saban. "And I, clearly, am probably his biggest opponent when it comes to agreeing on anything professional."
Saban suggests the debates be held in several cities including Phoenix, Wickenburg, Anthem and Guadalupe. He said the forums should focus on law enforcement issues, not politics and personal attacks.
Saban has given Arpaio until July 1 to respond to the requests. Arpaio hasn't decided whether he'll accept the challenge.
Didn`t Joe win last time with like 83% of the vote .
