The Pinal County Sheriff's Department is investigating an incident that left one man dead and another with a serious gunshot wound in Dudleyville.
Both men are believed to be illegal entrants but the circumstances surrounding the incident were unknown, said Mike Minter, a sheriff's spokesman.
Deputies went to the Minute Mart at Arizona 77 in Dudleyville at about noon Monday for a medical call, he said.
When they arrived, they learned two men had been brought to the convenience store by a good Samaritan who saw them by the road, Minter said.
One of the men, Jose Garcia of Guatemala, suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen, Minter said. He was flown to a hospital in Tucson and is in stable condition, Minter said. Garcia's age was not available.
The other man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, Minter said. It did not appear that he sustained any gunshot wounds but he did suffer trauma, Minter said.
An autopsy will be performed by the Pima County Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death.
The department's homicide unit was still working to locate the crime scene, Minter said.
No further information was available. Dudleyville is about 50 miles north of Tucson. (and very rural) http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/printDS/234420
