10 arrested in Amarillo for drug smuggling linked to Mexican drug cartel

10 arrested in Amarillo for drug smuggling linked to Mexican drug cartel

    BY JOSHUA FECHTER : MARCH 10, 2015 : Updated: March 10, 2015 10:29am

Ten Amarillo men and women have been arrested on felony drug smuggling charges in connection with a Mexican drug cartel, the Texas Department of Public Safety said Monday.

All 10 suspects could face up to life in prison on the first-degree felony charge of engaging in organized criminal activity.

The arrests were part of a joint investigation between federal, state and local law enforcement agencies that began in 2011 and resulted in the arrests of 19 other suspects in 2013 and 2014 on conspiracy and drug trafficking charges, the department said in a news release.

During the investigation, law enforcement agencies seized 18 firearms, about $500,000 in cash, more than 37 pounds of methamphetamine and almost 25 pounds of cocaine, according to the release.

DPS told the Amarillo Globe-News that the 2011 investigation connected the Gulf Cartel to a major meth and cocaine trafficking ring in Amarillo.

The most recent arrests involved several law enforcement agencies: the DPS, the FBI, Amarillo Police Department, Randall County Sheriff's Office and the Potter County Sheriff's Office.

Were any of these criminals illegal aliens? I guess not since there's no reference to ICE or any other DHS agency.

LOL!! Yeah, it appears they were, otherwise one of the DHS agencies would have been involved and they aren't mentioned at all! Probably relatives of DREAMers, using drug money to pay for educations in our colleges and universities.

When Americans understand the length and breadth of these drug cartels and the adverse impact they have on our society through the need for open borders, illegal aliens to run their drugs, and residence eventually to maintain their massive operations, they'll want to end the War on Drugs, which has become a War on Americans instead, and legalize and regulate as a domestic trade, no imports, owned and operated by US citizens only, and bring all these cross border and port issues to an end.

The foreign cartels could never compete with our legal industry and I firmly believe after studying this for awhile now that our society would be far better off with a legal, regulated and taxed drug trade instead of the underground black market illegal business that's supplying this market now, because of the international implications, the border issues, and of course the hard crime that goes with it. Plus Americans using illegal drugs that aren't regulated are put at risk of using bad product that increases addiction and causes accidental overdoses.

If we pass the FairTax, then the legal drug sales would be not only regulated but taxed and a portion of these taxes only drug users pay could be used to better educate the public about the risk and consequences of using these drugs to reduce usage, as well as provide a free on-demand rehabilitation program for anyone who wants or needs it. Then we stop worrying about it.

This will help us stop illegal immigration and reduce a lot of black market related drug crimes. It will also get the drug cartels out of our politics, and all the poor Americans behind bars or with felony records can be set free, their records purged in most cases, and their lives restored to where they should have been to behind with.

So there is a lot of advantages to ending the War on Drugs and replacing it with a legalized, regulated system, and I hope we see that common sense present itself one of these days in the near future.

I and thinking that if some have have been made "legal" by Obama, they won't be mentioned by ICE. Or some are grown up anchor babies. The apples don't fall far from the tree. JMO
