CASA GRANDE, Ariz. - Arizona border agents have arrested an illegal immigrant who was profiled on "America's Most Wanted" in an Iowa hit-and-run that killed a man and his horse.

The Border Patrol said Tuesday that 25-year-old Feliciano Diaz of Chiapas, Mexico, was arrested in the Casa Grande area south of Phoenix on Monday for being an illegal immigrant.

As he was being processed, agents discovered an active warrant for his arrest in Des Moines on charges of vehicular homicide, unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and other related charges.

Diaz was on an August 2009 episode of "America's Most Wanted" about the Sept. 26, 2008, hit-and-run of a horseback trail guide and his mount.

    Extradition arrangements are being made.

It's unclear whether Diaz yet has a lawyer.

    Feliciano Diaz Report a Tip

    A Hit-and-Run On Horseback

Dennis Kaiser bought his new horse, Matches, only two weeks prior to the hit-and-run accident that left both of them dead.

Dennis Kaiser's family says he lived every day to ride.

He was worked as a horseback trail guide at a ranch not only because of his love for horses, but because he wanted to make enough money to purchase his own.

His hard work paid off when he was able to bring home his new companion, Matches. What Dennis did not know was that two weeks later, he would never ride Matches, or any horse, ever again.

On the evening of Sept. 26, 2008, Dennis was riding Matches back to his stable after a long day of work on the ranch.

As he was making his way down the shoulder of Hartford Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa, cops say that a vehicle, heading west, veered off the road and struck Matches from behind.

Dennis was thrown off his horse into oncoming traffic, killing the 26-year-old ranch guide.

Police are searching for the alleged driver, Feliciano Diaz, who cops say fled the scene, leaving Dennis for dead.

He was formerly employed at a Flying J Truck Stop in Clive, Iowa, and a Red Robin in Urbandale, Iowa.

Cops: Intoxicated Driver Fled On Foot

Diaz faces numerous charges including vehicular homicide and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, for allegedly hitting and killing a man riding a horse in late September 2008.

While the driver who hit Dennis in the street pulled over to help, cops say Diaz took off and abandoned his green Dodge Intrepid a couple of blocks away from the incident. Police say he then ran to a nearby restaurant, plotting his next move.

Des Moines police found his abandoned car, which was registered under the name "Tomas Diaz."

Earlier that evening, police reports say that Diaz spent his day drinking heavily on the ranch where Dennis worked. Cops say Diaz got into an altercation and was asked to leave the ranch.

After friends told Diaz to refrain from driving home under the influence, he proceeded to get behind the wheel. Moments later, cops say he hit the mounted horse.

The owner of the restaurant where Diaz sought refuge recalls that he appeared to be under the influence as he asked for directions for the restroom.

Diaz has not been seen since.

    Rider's Family Wants Justice

Feliciano Diaz, aka "Tomas Diaz," has a child living in the Milwaukee, Wis., area.

Dennis' family now needs your help to find the man accused of killing the passionate rider.

The 5-foot, 1-inch fugitive often has a shaved head and wears hats.

Diaz also has a stab wound scar on his right hand, which U.S. Marshals tell us he received while trying to stop someone from stabbing another individual. It's believed Diaz grabbed the knife blade and had to go to the hospital to receive stitches in his lower right palm.

Marshals say whenever Diaz goes out to bars or parties, he wears a silver necklace with a unique taloned bird medallion.

Diaz often patronizes restaurants and diners. He was formerly employed at a Flying J Truck Stop in Clive, Iowa, and a Red Robin in Urbandale, Iowa.

Diaz is now wanted by the Des Moines Police Department for vehicular homicide, material witness, and failure to render aid at fatality incident. The U.S. Marshals also have a federal arrest warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Cops say the latest tip has placed Diaz in Chicago, Ill., though he has a child in Milwaukee, Wis., and may be seen around there.

Did the Cities and States that wants to opt out of the federal Secure Communities program to detect alien criminals see and read this news article?
