Idaho Illegal immigrant sentenced in marijuana case

BOISE, Idaho — A 23-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for growing 1,687 marijuana plants on U.S. Forest Service land in Idaho.

Leonardo Villasenor-Cesar was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge, who also ordered Villasenor-Cesar to forfeit drugs, manufacturing materials and firearms.

Prosecutors say a hunter spotted the grow operation last summer and contacted law enforcement. Villasenor-Cesar was arrested in August, but another suspect was able to evade capture.

Court records say a stream had been dammed to provide water piped through plastic tubing to the cultivation plot. Two tents and primitive shelters were found and there was evidence that they had been supplied with groceries dropped off on a nearby road.
