Mexico creating national data center of police officers

(Mexico City) The National Information Center (CNI), a part of the National Public Security System, is collecting DNA and voice samples from Mexico’s 620,000 police officers. The head of the center explained that fingerprints, photos, DNA and other biometric data will be collected from both public and private security officers. He said that by having the information it will make it easier to verify legitimacy of officers. The technology is coming from the
US-supported Merida Initiative. (Note: this will also make it easier to prosecute corrupt cops that commit crimes, such as serving as hit men for a cartel and that leave forensic evidence behind.)
